For Ferrari, Fiorano is more than a circuit: it's a sanctuary. Since 1972, this private 3-kilometer track, located a stone's throw from the Maranello factory and Enzo Ferrari's former office, has been the place where every model must prove its worth. Here, there is no comparison with the competition: Fiorano is Ferrari's personal notebook, where the history of the brand is written as time goes by.
In recent months, Ferrari unveiled some exceptional models: the 296 Specialethe F80 and the 849 Testarossa. Naturally, all of them were put through their paces on Fiorano... and turned the hierarchy upside down.
Result: the Ferrari F80 became the new queen of Fiorano with a breathtaking time of 1:15.3, 4.4 seconds faster than the LaFerrari. The hierarchy was transformed, illustrating the brand's meteoric evolution in barely a decade.

A hierarchy in perpetual motion
This ranking is a perfect illustration of Ferrari's meteoric evolution. Where the Testarossa of the 1980s clocked a respectable 1:40.6, the F80 today pulverizes the time in 1:15.3. In just over 40 years, Ferrari has gained almost 25 seconds on a lap of Fiorano.
But beyond the numbers, Fiorano remains a symbol: a sacred ground where Ferrari measures itself... against itself. Each new model seeks not only to beat the competition, but to push back the limits set by its own models. The question is: which Ferrari will one day beat the F80's time? An F100? In the meantime, you can watch the videos of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz or even Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton test drive the F80 at Fiorano.
What a pleasure to see the F80 in action in the hands of people who know how to get the most out of it.
Their opinion confirms the enthusiastic conclusion of Laurent Chevallier, Sport Auto's chief tester, who says that driving the F80 is "the kind of experience that absolutely surpasses anything else".
As for the list of times, it perfectly reflects the philosophy instilled by the Commendatore that "the best Ferrari is the next one".
Can't wait to see the 296 Spéciale in Sport Auto's super test.
For the moment, the absolute best time is held by a 296 GTS asseto fiorano.
I'd be curious to see the time of a Testarossa from the 80s but with modern tires. I'm sure the tire improvement is worth several full seconds in 40 years of evolution!
But that doesn't detract from the mechanical genius of modern Ferraris.
