The return of the off-center license plate

For several decades now, Alfa Romeo models have been equipped with a highly appreciated feature: the off-center plate. However, this detail has recently been disrupted by the arrival of the Alfa Romeo Junior in 2024. To everyone's surprise, the license plate on this model was centered on the bumper. This decision disappointed many fans of the brand, some of whom regretted the absence of the visual signature so dear to Alfa Romeo. It's worth remembering that Alfa Romeo 145, 146, 164 and 75, among other models, feature a centered license plate.

But don't worry, because for the Giulia, the off-centre plate will be back! A relief for some aficionados, for whom this detail is an integral part of the car's identity. The Giuliawill return to this aesthetic choice in its next version, scheduled for 2026. The more information about its designbecause we were the first to tell you 1 year ago that the future Giulia will have a fastback look like a Peugeot 408 (but on the STLA Large platform for the Alfa Romeo, which shares nothing with the Peugeot, on the EMP2 platform).

Why this decision?

It's important to note that Alfa Romeo has long defended the idea of an off-center plate on its vehicles for design reasons. However, in May 2024, Alfa Romeo announced it would no longer be able to offer off-center plates on certain models due to new safety standards. Although this standard has remained somewhat vague, and we have been unable to find any official trace of it, it seems that SUV are the main models affected by these regulations, since, according to our information, the future Stelvio of 2025 will also have a centered license plate.

  1. So Mesonero-Romanos lied, right from his first vehicle... Bravo 👏🏻

As for the fastback look, nobody wants it, the 408 is about 75th in its domestic market, the same for the C5X and it will be the same for the DS N°8, I don't understand this PSA fixation...

  2. Good news indeed. Brand identity is important and this was part of it.
Let's hope the future Giulia has engines to match.

  3. It was time for Alfa Romeo to return to this distinctive feature to set itself apart and keep its fans.

  4. This off-center plaque is like a scar on a beautiful girl's cheek.
It explains the public's disenchantment with this once admirable, sporty brand that made hearts flutter.
Each new Alfa model with an off-center plate will be another commercial failure.

    • Except that everyone who's bought an Alfa Romeo in the last 30 years loves the off-center plate. It's only ever been a hindrance to those who are conservative traditionalists who understand nothing about design.
