Fiat 500 hybrid: photos, video, launch date and production targets, the brand puts an end to certain rumours

Advertising

Fiat has just shared photos of pre-production models of its new Fiat 500 hybrid, putting an end to some speculation and confirming several important elements about this eagerly-awaited vehicle. This hybrid car model will breathe new life into the Mirafiori plant, and the presentation of the pre-production models clarified several key aspects.

Production from November 2025

As planned, Fiat has announced that series production of the Fiat 500 hybrid will begin in November 2025. This delay had previously been mentioned by Stellantis' ex-CEO, Carlos Tavares, in October 2024. So production at Fiat's factories is moving ahead apace to meet this timetable, with ambitious targets in sight. (And remember that we talked about it as early as march 2024).

71 hp Fiat 1.0L GSE hybrid engine

About the engine, Fiat has confirmed that the 500 Hybrid will be powered by the 71 hp 1.0L GSE engine, an engine already used on the previous hybrid version of the Fiat 500 produced in Poland, as well as on the Fiat Panda, currently manufactured in Italy. Contrary to what some critics had announced, there will be no 1.2L Puretech engine. The decision to keep an already-proven Fiat engine is intended to bolster production and support the Termoli plant in 2026, which will need it.

Although this engine has been the subject of some performance concerns, don't expect a very fast car. In fact, the Fiat 500 hybrid will be designed primarily for urban travel, with a gearbox perfectly suited to city driving. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to match an impressive performance observed by an Internet user who reached incredible speed with his Fiat 500 on the German Autobahn !

6-speed manual gearbox

The Fiat 500 Hybrid will also retain the 6-speed manual gearbox, a feature that has been part of this model's identity since its earliest versions. The photos also show a gearshift slightly higher than that of the previous version, which could improve driving comfort.

Production targets and sales ambitions

The production target remains the same as initially announced, i.e. 100,000 units per year. By way of comparison, the previous Fiat 500 hybrid produced in Poland reached 180,000 units a year. However, Stellantis Europe's managing director had mentioned higher ambitions, mentioning a target of 130,000 units per year for this new version. These figures demonstrate the strategic importance of this model for Fiat as it moves up the range of hybrid and electric vehicles.

The price of the Fiat 500 hybrid

Fiat has not announced a price. But we'd like to remind you that the brand told us in an interview that it intended to offer the Fiat 500 hybrid at a starting price of less than €20,000. This will make it competitive with other hybrid and electric models on the market, while offering attractive value for money.

No Abarth version on the programme

Finally, for fans of sporty versions, It's important to note that no Abarth version is planned for this new Fiat 500 hybrid, at least for the time being. Rumors of an Abarth version have thus been denied, and the production version will focus on performance suitable for everyday city driving.

  1. Wow! Great news! I wished for it more than 1 year ago here on italpassion and here it is in hybrid! Come on Fiat, a little effort on the engine! With a 6-speed gearbox, we'll be able to go away for the weekend in a cabrio! I can see it in my cubicle!
Merci Thank you merci a vous et à Tous

  2. It needs to be lightened, otherwise the 71 hp will be a little too low.
The Fiat 500 has to be more than just a pretty city car.
It's a pity that Abarth isn't concerned with a hybrid powertrain, because there is such a thing as a high-performance Abarth. The Abarth 500e, which tops out at 155 km/h without offering any real thrills, leaves former Abarth owners to look elsewhere.

    • Too bad they didn't make the 12-valve version with at least 80 hp and an automatic gearbox.
For the 'abarth 500 they could have adapted the 1300 Firefly turbo 180 hp it would have done the trick for enthusiasts of this brand and I am that it is possible, the Italians know how to do.

    • I've driven the old-generation Fiat 500 hybrid countless times. It's so easy to drive that a mech gearbox isn't such a big inconvenience.
It's not designed for speed, but the 70 hp of the old 500 may be enough.
The new 500 (the 500e) is heavier, but so much better finished with quality materials, and with 95 or 118 hp it makes good progress.

      She looks so pretty
But the current 500 Hybrid is a calf: coming out of a roundabout .... heavy goods vehicles are right on your tail.
It's going to be complicated with another 100 kgs.
      Too bad!

  5. So let's keep our individual desires and enjoy this good news! What's more, as orders are set to explode, Fiat will be quick to expand its range of products to keep its high-tech industrial plants and OHQ employees performing at their best! Great times ahead for the Italians, and for us lovers of pretty cars in Europe!
Merci Thank you merci a vous Tous.

  6. To answer a certain question, I don't find the BVM disturbing. It's perhaps a shame not to have offered a BVA in parallel, but at least it will reduce costs and therefore the selling price. On the other hand, where I agree with other opinions, and where I remain convinced, 70hp is too little. Yes, it's enough for a city car. But the 500 has a "chic" and "premium" image in its segment. It's a shame not to offer more than a Panda or the old 500. Especially as it's likely to be heavier, and therefore less powerful.

  8. Mouarf, the Italians are still way off the mark. A new real city car (the big Panda is already too big sometimes) and no automatic gearbox!!? Let them disappear for good 😡. Nul

  14. In 2025, an automatic gearbox or I'll go elsewhere, the 500e is automatic, why not a hybrid? People who don't want an electric car still want an automatic gearbox. For fans of mechanical gearboxes, Abarth could produce a manual. That would be the solution.
