He traveled hundreds of kilometers to find two abandoned Ferrari F40s he'd spotted on Google Maps and received an offer of 35,000 €.

To come across a Ferrari F40 Finding just one abandoned car by the side of the road would already be an extraordinary discovery. So what about two? Yet that’s the lead the Spanish YouTuber decided to follow Georgesmithgood after receiving mysterious location tips from his followers. In the images available via Google Maps, the silhouettes seem intriguing enough to make him want to go check them out in person. His journey would take him hundreds of kilometers, from Portugal to the Alicante region. But the hunt for Ferraris would quickly take a very different turn.

One of the first F40s abandoned near Portugal

The first lead takes Georgesmithgood to a remote area near the Portuguese border. Amid several cars abandoned on a piece of land, he finds the silhouette he had seen in the images.

A gigantic spoiler, red bodywork, and proportions inspired by the legendary Italian supercar: from a very, very long way off, the illusion might work. Up close, no way. The YouTuber quickly realizes he’s not standing in front of a real Ferrari F40. He identifies it as a replica and surmises—particularly by looking at the dashboard—that it’s likely based on a Pontiac Fiero. The disappointment could have ended the story right there. But a second location awaits him, more than 700 kilometers away.

The second «Ferrari»: for sale for €35,000

After just a few hours of sleep, we headed to Alicante. This time, the car was hidden under a tarp near a house. And certain details were enough to keep the suspense going.

The car is definitely there. However, its exhaust pipes immediately arouse the YouTuber’s suspicion—he’s already considering the possibility that it’s another replica (though we weren’t surprised, given those exhaust pipes…). The owner finally agrees to show him the car. When the tarp comes off, the verdict is clear: this second «F40» is also a replica based on a Pontiac Fiero (again!). According to the documents and the license plate, it appears to be from France. Its owner even seems willing to sell it. Asking price: around 35,000 euros. Given its condition, it’s more like 3,500 euros…

No Ferrari, but a wonderful encounter

The story could have been summed up as two fake Ferraris and several hundred kilometers traveled for nothing. However, while waiting to examine the second car, Georgesmithgood Meet Tino, an enthusiast who works out of a workshop filled with vehicles that are, to say the least, unusual. Replicas, vintage limousines, Rolls-Royces, Alfa Romeos, and handcrafted creations are piled high throughout the space.

In short, the two Ferrari F40s spotted on Google Maps weren’t the treasures he’d been hoping for. But in his quest to find two abandoned examples of one of the most legendary Ferraris in history, Georgesmithgood stumbled upon something that no satellite image could really hint at: a whole little world of collectors, replicas, and other unlikely cars.
