A Californian has ordered a 1970s Alfa Romeo Giulia... transformed into a 600hp electric car

What if the future were to come from the past? That's exactly the gamble taken by a Californian customer who ordered an Alfa Romeo Giulia GT from the 1970s... completely reinvented as an electric car with almost 600 horsepower.

Behind this unusual project is the Italian restomod specialist Totem Automobili, which has just unveiled a unique new creation: the Zeal01.

A reinterpreted Alfa Romeo Giulia GT

At first glance, it's hard not to recognize the legendary lines of the Giulia GT, produced between the 60s and 70s. This Alfa Romeo icon, with its famous «stepnose» design and compact silhouette, left its mark on a whole generation of driving enthusiasts. But here, everything has been reinterpreted.

The Zeal01 retains the aesthetic DNA of the original model, but takes it to another dimension. The body is now based on a modern carbon fiber structure, extensively reworked, with perfect proportions and contemporary details such as LED lighting and exposed carbon elements.

The paint, called Azzurro Pervinca, is one of the most striking elements. This triple-layered metallic blue, somewhere between blue and violet, subtly changes hue according to the light. A choice entirely decided by the customer himself, who was involved in every stage of the project, right down to the car's name.

Custom interiors

Inside, the transformation is equally spectacular. For the first time on a Totem GT Electric, the cabin is finished in a two-tone blend of blue and cream Nappa leather, with houndstooth fabric inserts specially developed for this model. Every detail exudes Italian craftsmanship, with materials worked by hand, notably by Florentine workshops.

Sabelt's carbon fiber seats are dressed in this elegant combination, while quilted door panels, leather headlining and custom stitching add to the exclusive character.

Even the smallest elements, such as the air vents and instrument surrounds, adopt subtle gold finishes, echoing the exterior accents.

600 electric horsepower for a vintage Alfa Romeo

But this Alfa Romeo isn't just beautiful. It's also high-performance. Beneath its vintage silhouette lies a 100 % electric powertrain developing around 600 hp. Enough to propel this revisited GT from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.

The Zeal01 also boasts a claimed range of around 500 km, making this rolling work of art ideal for everyday use, including long-distance journeys.

The chassis has been thoroughly modernized, with a pilot-controlled suspension system developed in collaboration with a specialist Italian company, allowing independent adjustment of front and rear settings. Braking is assured by a top-of-the-range Brembo system, indispensable for controlling such a cavalry.

A unique piece at over €700,000

As is often the case with Totem Automobili, this creation is a one-off, made-to-order model.

The Californian customer, who initiated the project, was able to personalize every detail, from the exterior color to the interior ambience. This level of customization obviously comes at a price: the base model already exceeds €600,000, and a configuration as advanced as this Zeal01 could reach, or even exceed, €700,000.
