Andy Page is a British amateur racer who is very active in the championships. Alfa Romeo in Great Britain for over 20 years, notably in the Hitek Alfa Romeo & Italian Intermarque Championship, a national championship very popular with enthusiasts of the brand. In this mixed championship of historic and modern Alfa Romeo cars, he competes in the “Modified” class (where cars have more free settings and modifications), driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta 116, with race number 14.

Giulietta Turbodelta, the Biscione's forgotten sports sedan

In 1983, the third version of the Giulietta 116 (introduced in 1977) was launched, with a restyling of certain elements such as the bumper and grille. 1984 saw the launch of a new, sportier version, the «2.0 Turbo Autodelta», equipped with a 170 hp engine and a more racy appearance. Developed by Autodelta, it was conceived as a potential replacement for the GTV6 in motor racing, but the timing was very unfavorable. Autodelta had planned to build 1,000 examples, as required by homologation, but the Turbodelta was not a priority for Alfa Romeo management, which concentrated its efforts on the 75, scheduled for launch in 1985. In all, only 361 examples were produced.

The Turbodelta prototypes were equipped with an Avio Alfa Romeo turbo, but were switched to more reliable KKK turbos for series production. The models were painted deep black with a red side stripe. Dial rims concealed ventilated discs and improved suspension. Under the hood, in addition to the turbocharger, there were sodium-filled exhaust valves.

Inside, a boost pressure gauge and Momo steering wheel completed the picture. This was unquestionably the ultimate Giulietta, and had it seen the light of day a few years earlier, it would undoubtedly have had a better chance of making the Giulietta a legend.

The modified Giulietta

It had no real sporting career, but enthusiasts like Andy Page decided otherwise. The Giulietta is powered by a 2.0 Bialbero engine with Cosworth injection. The exact power output is not known, although some forums mention over 200 hp.

As an old photo shows, Andy Page has gradually given his Giulietta 116 a more aggressive makeover. Initially very close to its original line, it became more muscular with time. The bodywork has been reworked, with wider tracks, an accentuated rear spoiler, a bladed front spoiler, a front hood with a large air intake, yellow stripes on the headlights, shortened bumpers and 18-inch wheels with a much larger diameter than the original Turbodelta.

Modest results, but enormous goodwill

In terms of results, of course, the Giulietta 116 struggles against the other “Modifieds” we've already mentioned, such as the modern Giulietta 4C and TCR. In a round at Silverstone in 2025, Andy Page qualified his Giulietta 116 in 7th position in the “Modified” class. In another round in 2025 on the same circuit, he appeared in around 6ᵉ place overall, in the “Modified” field, ahead of several more powerful cars. A regular, Andy Page didn't win but finished 3rd in the 2025 championship in his class, out of 12 entrants. For 2026, he'll be back on the starting grid, at the wheel of his indestructible blue Giulietta.
