WhileAlfa Romeo had officially announced the end of orders for its Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models a few months agothe Italian brand is about to do an about-face. Faced with the slowdown in the 100 % electric and to the postponement of its future Stelvio and Giulia models, Behind the scenes, Alfa Romeo is preparing the unexpected return of even more extreme Quadrifoglio versions.
Change of course for engines
Initially, Alfa Romeo's plan was clear: to abandon combustion engines by 2027, with a shift to 100 electric %s. But the reality of the market decided otherwise. The launches of the new generations of Giulia and Stelvio, scheduled for 2025 and 2026, have been postponed. The reason? The need to review the technical orientation of the models and reintroduce hybrid powertrains, given the slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles.
As a result, the current Giulia and Stelvio will have to play for time. And with them, the Quadrifoglio coat of arms, Alfa Romeo's historic symbol of performance, takes one last lap of honor. But not just like that.
Powerful special editions from 2026 onwards
On the occasion of the announcement of a partnership between Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa, the Italian America's Cup team, Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo, revealed the forthcoming arrival of "very powerful" new Quadrifoglio models, expected in the first quarter of 2026. These models will be produced in very limited editions.
The aim is clear: to embody the pinnacle of the Italian brand's performance expertise, taking advantage of technological innovations derived from top-level yacht racing. Lightness and advanced materials are at the heart of these new creations. The link with Luna Rossa should bring particular attention to the design and technical efficiency of these exceptional cars.

Alfa Romeo's quest for maximum weight reduction is to be applauded, as it should make the difference with the ever larger and heavier German panzers. In this respect, the current Tonale should benefit from a similar treatment, receiving the Maserati 48V's hybridized 2.0L GME and its powertrain with a similar preparation to offer a genuine Veloce version. The search for stylistic lightness is also desirable, and the inflation of the scudetto must be stopped, all the more so when it conceals a Puretech 1.2L.
Are you sure about the Tonale?

Oh no, not at all! It's a wish!
Du hast mir einen Sinn für Humor. Träum nicht mein Freund. Das wird nicht passieren. Aber der Gedanke ist schön.
I do think Electric is the way to go as I would definitely not buy or rent hybrid
Petrol or diesel. As in a few years they will have no value when only electric
cars will dominate the car market.
Ich denke das du damit total daneben liegst. Sieh dir die politische Situation an.
New, more powerful engines, like those of the Giulia GTA and GTAm, are all very well.
We'd also like to see hybrid engines for the Giulia and Stelvio, which would make them saleable and avoid a dissuasive malus.
Today, a good manufacturer has to know how to control batteries and recharging from A to Z, and have a digital interface that's perfect, fast and smart. The rest is just decoration. Alfa admits that it is not in a position to master electric vehicles, like the rest of the European automakers, who have all given up. Europe's only salvation: find a new technology that's better than hybrid or electric, or else use the weapon of the weak: tariffs for Asians... Good luck!
