A Japanese base, an Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio V6 engine and Giulia Sprint looks: here's the unlikely Polish drift "Alfa"!

When we think of drifting, we immediately imagine supercharged Japanese cars, like the Nissan Silvia, or BMWs, preferably the E30 generation of the 3 series. The Alfa Romeo are becoming rarer in this universe, even if the rear-wheel drive architecture of some iconic models could have made them great sliding stars. It's no doubt this injustice that Polish driver Krystian Morawietz wanted to right. A specialist in Czech and European drifting series, he seems to have a particular appreciation of Italian vehicles, as he once raced in a...V8-powered Fiat Strada!

A "revisited" Sprint Veloce

He now rides an Alfa Romeo "Sprint Veloce", a creation of his own, a sort of bizarre automotive "Frankenstein". The name comes from the fact that the car's bodywork is supposedly inspired by the Giulia Sprint and Giulia GTA of the 60s, with its body-built fenders. We'll let you be the judge of the acuity of such a comparison: at most, we can identify the unmistakable Scudetto on the grille, while the round headlamps may distantly evoke the old Giulia. But other than that, the relationship is distant. The rounded, shapely fenders do, however, contribute to the machine's looks. In truth, the base has nothing to do with the Milanese firm, since the Polish driver's prototype is indeed a Japanese coupé, in this case a Subaru BRZ, a cousin of the Toyota GT86.

The heart of Quadrifoglio

But rest assured, it's not all Japanese. There's an Italian heart inside, and what a heart it is! Inside, we find a 2.9 L twin-turbo V6, the same engine found in the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Power figures vary from source to source, as we've found the original specification (510 hp, before the 2023 restyling which increased power to 520 hp) but also 570 hp or even 600 hp, with torque claimed to be between 610 and 800 Nm. This suggests that Krystian has done some reprogramming and given the beast a few extra horses, with a new mapping, depending on the circumstances. At least someone's giving that damned V6 Biturbo a sporting career!

In terms of stats, it's not bad, as the driver is credited with 61 battles won out of 108 contested in the Czech Drift Series. His reputation is beginning to spread beyond the national borders, as he was on show at the 2025 edition of SpaItalia!
