Em 1968, participou nas 24 Horas de Le Mans com um amigo, conduzindo um simples MGB. A corrida? Ele mal se lembra. O que o marcou para a vida estava noutro lugar, estacionado no parque fechado: um Ferrari Dino 206 GT amarelo. A objetiva da sua m\u00e1quina fotogr\u00e1fica passou por uma veda\u00e7\u00e3o para imortalizar o carro. A fotografia ainda existe, amarelecida pelo tempo. Mas a emo\u00e7\u00e3o permanece intacta. Perante este Dino, o cora\u00e7\u00e3o de Carlos parou. Aos seus olhos, nenhum outro carro no mundo poderia igualar as suas propor\u00e7\u00f5es, o seu design, a sua eleg\u00e2ncia natural. Charles tinha apenas 26 anos. Oficial do ex\u00e9rcito brit\u00e2nico e piloto de helic\u00f3pteros, ganhava 1.000 libras por ano livres de impostos. Juntando as suas poupan\u00e7as e vendendo o seu Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV, conseguiu juntar dinheiro suficiente para encomendar um Ferrari Dino 246 GT aos Concession\u00e1rios Maranello em Inglaterra. Em novembro de 1972, a fatura ascendeu a 4.435 libras, incluindo o desconto militar. Quando o pre\u00e7o subiu 150 libras, Charles estava pronto a cancelar a encomenda. Mas o fundador do concession\u00e1rio, o coronel Ronnie Hoare, interrompeu-o: ele queria absolutamente que este jovem oficial se fosse embora no seu pr\u00f3prio carro. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/pt\/ferrari\/\">Ferrari<\/a>. O Dino foi entregue aos pais de Charles enquanto ele estava numa miss\u00e3o na Alemanha. A mesma garagem abre-se para o mesmo Ferrari Dino 246 GT, chassis n\u00famero 05286, vestido num raro Azzurro Blue com um interior em pele bege. A silhueta \u00e9 t\u00e3o pura como sempre, o focinho mergulhante intacto e os quatro tubos de escape fi\u00e9is \u00e0 sua forma. Charles protegeu o seu Ferrari como um tesouro nacional. Estacionado num antigo hangar militar e coberto por um para-quedas, nunca viu neve e raramente chove. Nunca foi restaurado ou reconstru\u00eddo. O motor nunca foi reconstru\u00eddo. Tudo \u00e9 original, at\u00e9 o manual do propriet\u00e1rio ainda embrulhado em pl\u00e1stico de f\u00e1brica. O conta-quil\u00f3metros indica apenas 17.000 milhas, ou seja, pouco mais de 27.000 quil\u00f3metros. No papel, estes n\u00fameros podem parecer modestos atualmente. Ele recorda o som particular do \"clunk\" das portas a fechar, a precis\u00e3o da caixa de velocidades, a harmonia mec\u00e2nica. Chegou mesmo a equipar um r\u00e1dio com um microfone para gravar o som do motor quando faz mudan\u00e7as de velocidade a plena carga. \"\u00c9 uma brincadeira de crian\u00e7as\", admite. Mas a emo\u00e7\u00e3o mant\u00e9m-se. Ainda hoje, continua a levar o seu Dino para a Prescott Speed Hill Climb, onde os propriet\u00e1rios de Ferrari modernos o v\u00eam cumprimentar, felizes por verem o carro que agora consideram um \u00edcone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Um legado mais forte do que o valor de mercado<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>O tempo acabou por cobrar o seu pre\u00e7o. Charles conduz menos do que costumava. Assim, ap\u00f3s 54 anos juntos, chegou a altura de passar o Dino ao seu filho, Piers. Uma transfer\u00eancia \u00f3bvia: Piers \u00e9 um especialista em carros cl\u00e1ssicos e conhece todos os sons e reac\u00e7\u00f5es do Ferrari. \"Nunca ser\u00e1 vendido\", diz Charles sem hesitar. Mais do que um simples carro, este Dino tornou-se uma heran\u00e7a de fam\u00edlia, um legado emocional e mec\u00e2nico. O filho conduz o carro \"magnificamente\", com o mesmo respeito que o pai. O Ferrari Dino 246 GT continuar\u00e1 assim a sua viagem, intacto, preservado, transmitido de gera\u00e7\u00e3o em gera\u00e7\u00e3o.
