Na segunda metade da d\u00e9cada de 1980, competiu tamb\u00e9m em corridas de resist\u00eancia nas 24 Horas de Le Mans e at\u00e9 em equipas do Campeonato de Automobilismo dos Estados Unidos, al\u00e9m de participar em corridas de barcos offshore. Mas a par das suas actividades de competi\u00e7\u00e3o, Ballabio tinha outra ambi\u00e7\u00e3o: <strong>para criar o primeiro construtor de autom\u00f3veis desportivos do M\u00f3naco e produzir um autom\u00f3vel desportivo de alto n\u00edvel, numa altura em que a moda dos supercarros estava a varrer o mercado e a atrair uma enorme especula\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/strong> Este objetivo foi alcan\u00e7ado em 1985 com a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da Monte-Carlo Automobiles. Para o efeito, associou-se \u00e0 empresa de iates Monte-Carlo Marine. O objetivo? Lan\u00e7ar o autom\u00f3vel em 1990, ano do centen\u00e1rio do Autom\u00f3vel Clube do M\u00f3naco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">O ADN da Alfa Romeo...<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e3o se trata de um projeto fr\u00edvolo, especialmente se considerarmos os engenheiros envolvidos. Como figura de proa e diretor t\u00e9cnico, <strong>Encontramos, muito simplesmente, Carlo Chiti, que trabalhou para a Ferrari na viragem dos anos 50 e 60, antes de fundar a Autodelta, onde supervisionou todos os principais programas desportivos da Alfa Romeo entre meados dos anos 60 e o in\u00edcio dos anos 80.<\/strong> O 33 Stradale, o Giulia GTA, o prot\u00f3tipo 33TT12 e o motor turbo de F1 da Biscione s\u00e3o todos obra sua!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Chiti juntou-se outro designer, Guglielmo Bellasi, um dos pioneiros da fibra de carbono, <\/strong>que tinha constru\u00eddo o seu pr\u00f3prio carro de F\u00f3rmula 1 no in\u00edcio dos anos 70 e que depois participou no projeto de monolugares de Arturo Merzario. Outras pessoas envolvidas incluem Pierluigi Corbari, antigo diretor desportivo da Alfa Romeo nos anos 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">...cruzado com Touro!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>O outro golpe de mestre de Ballabio foi a conclus\u00e3o de um acordo com a Lamborghini para o fornecimento de motores,<\/strong> pois n\u00e3o tinha capacidade para conceber um modelo totalmente novo. O touro concedeu-lhe a licen\u00e7a para utilizar o Countach V12. Foto lesanciennes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Em 1985, Chiti fundou a sua pr\u00f3pria empresa de motores, a Motori Moderni, que n\u00e3o deixou uma impress\u00e3o duradoura na F1 com a Minardi e depois com a Coloni, onde desenvolveu um enorme 12 cilindros em linha rebadged como um Subaru! Chiti decidiu revisitar o motor do Countach, actualizando o V12 de aspira\u00e7\u00e3o natural para sobrealimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, instalando dois turbocompressores, um por cada banco de cilindros: <strong>Como resultado, a pot\u00eancia aumentou de 455 para 720 cv.<\/strong> Gra\u00e7as a estas interven\u00e7\u00f5es, o GTB Centenaire podia contar com o motor mais potente alguma vez concebido para um autom\u00f3vel de estrada. S\u00f3 em 1993 \u00e9 que o Dauer 962 Le Mans foi mais longe, com 730 cv. O motor transmitia a pot\u00eancia \u00e0s rodas traseiras atrav\u00e9s de uma caixa manual de 5 velocidades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Um pioneiro!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mas a arma secreta da Centenaire era o seu chassis.<\/strong> A Monte-Carlo decidiu adotar tecnologias de competi\u00e7\u00e3o, utilizando Kevlar e fibra de carbono, com uma estrutura em favo de mel, tudo numa s\u00f3 pe\u00e7a, ou seja, do tipo monocoque. Quando o Centenaire chegou em 1989, foi o primeiro autom\u00f3vel de estrada a ser equipado com esta tecnologia, que at\u00e9 ent\u00e3o s\u00f3 tinha sido experimentada e testada na F1. A Lamborghini tinha experimentado o processo num concept car, o Countach Evoluzione de 1986, mas n\u00e3o chegou a ser produzido. O McLaren F1 chegou em 1992, e s\u00f3 em 1995 \u00e9 que a Ferrari, com o seu F50, ofereceu o seu primeiro carro desportivo monocoque. Para completar o trabalho, os t\u00e9cnicos utilizaram tamb\u00e9m uma configura\u00e7\u00e3o de tipo F1 para a suspens\u00e3o, ou seja, um bra\u00e7o de suspens\u00e3o de haste baixa (ainda utilizado na F\u00f3rmula 1), com uma barra estabilizadora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mca-centenarie-rouge-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mca-centenarie-rouge-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mca-centenarie-rouge-2-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mca-centenarie-rouge-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mca-centenarie-rouge-2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>No total, foram necess\u00e1rios cinco anos de conce\u00e7\u00e3o e desenvolvimento para produzir um chassis que garantisse uma rigidez de tor\u00e7\u00e3o e de flex\u00e3o \u00e0 altura do motor. O seu nariz muito fino apontava para o asfalto, o que lhe conferia um excelente coeficiente de penetra\u00e7\u00e3o aerodin\u00e2mica. A recess\u00e3o econ\u00f3mica do in\u00edcio da d\u00e9cada atingiu fortemente o mercado dos autom\u00f3veis desportivos, enquanto a tecnologia sofisticada e os m\u00e9todos de produ\u00e7\u00e3o artesanais tornaram este Centenaire muito caro. Em 1993, foram adquiridas por um empres\u00e1rio georgiano que as transformou em dois GT destinados \u00e0s 24 Horas de Le Mans, denominados MIG 100. Em 1995, a Montecarlo Automobile foi comprada pelo grupo Aixam Mega, que comercializou uma s\u00e9rie de autom\u00f3veis derivados do Centenaire, denominados Mega Montecarlo, equipados com motores Mercedes V12.
