Op 30 oktober 2026, Stellantis heeft zijn historische fabriek in Douvrin definitief gesloten<\/a>, in Frankrijk. Na 57 jaar activiteit en meer dan 52 miljoen geproduceerde motoren heeft de fabriek een belangrijke bladzijde in haar geschiedenis omgeslagen. Een fabriek die vooral bekend stond om de productie van de beroemde 1,2-liter PureTech-motor, waarvan de betrouwbaarheidsproblemen miljoenen automobilisten hebben getroffen. Maar hoewel Douvrin zijn deuren heeft gesloten, Stellantis<\/a> heeft zijn driecilinder-benzinemotor niet opgegeven. De productie ervan is al verplaatst naar twee andere landen: Hongarije en Marokko.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Hongarije staat een fabriek die al miljoenen motoren produceert<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Met name in Szentgotth\u00e1rd, in Hongarije, heeft Stellantis de productie van zijn 1,2-liter EB2-motor opgezet. Deze fabriek, waar ook de 1,6-liter EP6-motor wordt geproduceerd, is uitgegroeid tot een van de strategische centra van de groep voor Europese benzinemotoren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En de cijfers zijn indrukwekkend. In december 2025 maakte de fabriek bekend dat ze de grens van Sinds januari 2020 zijn er 2 miljoen motoren geproduceerd<\/strong>, in minder dan zes jaar. De motoren worden naar 13 fabrieken van Stellantis verzonden, waar ze worden ingebouwd in verschillende modellen van de groep, met name bij Peugeot, Citro\u00ebn, Opel, Fiat en Alfa Romeo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De fabriek heeft een aangekondigde productiecapaciteit van 460.000 driecilindermotoren per jaar. Sinds juli 2024 produceert de fabriek ook de 1,6-liter-motor voor plug-in-hybride aandrijvingen, met een doelstelling van 220.000 eenheden per jaar. Maar Hongarije is niet het enige land dat de productie van de driecilindermotor, die vroeger in Frankrijk werd gemaakt, heeft overgenomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Marokko heeft Stellantis zijn productiecapaciteit uitgebreid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Op duizenden kilometers afstand van Douvrin speelt de Stellantis-fabriek in K\u00e9nitra, Marokko, nu een steeds belangrijkere rol. In juli 2025 heeft het concern een omvangrijke uitbreiding van deze vestiging ingewijd, met een bijzonder interessante aankondiging: De jaarlijkse productiecapaciteit voor motoren is gestegen van 100.000 naar 350.000 stuks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinds mei 2025 wordt in Kenitra een nieuwe generatie van de 1,2-liter EB2-motor geassembleerd. En Stellantis is niet van plan het daarbij te laten. De groep had ook aangekondigd dat in november 2026 met bewerkingsactiviteiten zou worden gestart, om de industri\u00eble integratie van de vestiging te versterken. Met deze uitbreiding wordt Marokko dus, naast Hongarije, een tweede belangrijk productiecentrum voor de driecilinder-benzinemotor van Stellantis. En dat komt goed uit voor de nieuwe Fiat Grizzly, die met deze motor is uitgerust en in dezelfde fabriek wordt geproduceerd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De PureTech heeft een andere naam gekregen, maar is niet helemaal verdwenen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Deze industri\u00eble reorganisatie vindt plaats op een moment dat Stellantis de problemen met de betrouwbaarheid van de PureTech achter zich wil laten. Op 19 oktober 2026, slechts elf dagen voor de sluiting van Douvrin, heeft algemeen directeur Antonio Filosa bood publiekelijk zijn excuses aan<\/a> aan de betrokken klanten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Er moet echter een onderscheid worden gemaakt tussen de eerdere generaties van de PureTech, die vooral bekend staan om hun problemen met de distributieriem, en de derde generatie van de EB2-motor, die aanzienlijke technische verbeteringen heeft ondergaan, waaronder de invoering van een distributieketting bij de hybride versies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
