Mirafiori, waar al sinds de jaren 1950 Fiat auto's worden geproduceerd, is niet alleen een symbool voor het merk, maar ook voor de stad Turijn en de Italiaanse regering. Het verplaatsen van de productie van de Fiat 500, een icoon van de Italiaanse stedelijke mobiliteit, zou gezien kunnen worden als een verloochening van deze lange geschiedenis en een klap voor het imago van Fiat. Pomigliano d'Arco zou de thuisbasis kunnen worden van twee van deze modellen.
