El coche fue dise\u00f1ado originalmente por Gianfranco Mantovani, m\u00e1s conocido como 'Wainer'. Este reputado tuneador italiano empez\u00f3 en los a\u00f1os 50 con un F\u00f3rmula Junior y se hizo un nombre construyendo sus propios monoplazas de F3, propulsados por Fiat y Alfa Romeo. Construir un prototipo de carreras todoterreno capaz de afrontar pruebas de resistencia como la Targa Florio o rallyes extremos como el Safari y el Par\u00eds-Dakar, competiciones que estaban en auge a finales de los a\u00f1os 70 y 80. Si <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/es\/alfa-romeo\/\">Alfa Romeo<\/a> ya ten\u00eda un historial probado en rallies con el Giulietta, el Giulia GT y otros modelos de Tubolare, el rally raid no era realmente el terreno de juego de los coches milaneses. Wainer ya hab\u00eda dise\u00f1ado un Fiat 500 con tracci\u00f3n a las cuatro ruedas para un amigo sudamericano en los a\u00f1os sesenta. Hab\u00eda instalado un motor en la parte delantera de la peque\u00f1a bomba de tracci\u00f3n trasera. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 no intentarlo a la inversa?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a1El regreso del Bimotore!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El chasis b\u00e1sico utilizado es el de un Alfasud Ti 1200 de 1974, que sacudi\u00f3 los h\u00e1bitos de la familia Alfasud al adoptar la tracci\u00f3n delantera. El rasgo distintivo del coche es la presencia de dos motores b\u00f3xer de 4 cilindros, cada uno con una cilindrada de 1.186 cc y 79 CV: uno delante, en su configuraci\u00f3n original, y otro detr\u00e1s, montado en posici\u00f3n central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El esp\u00edritu del Citro\u00ebn 2CV Sahara de 1957, \u00a1que se present\u00f3 con dos motores de 425 cc! Cooper tambi\u00e9n lo intent\u00f3 en los a\u00f1os 60 con el Twini, una versi\u00f3n bimotor del Mini Cooper, que compiti\u00f3 en la Targa Florio de 1963. Alfa Romeo no es ajena a los coches bimotores, como demuestran los siguientes ejemplos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/es\/alfa-romeo\/alfa-romeo-bimotore-16-c-cuando-enzo-ferrari-quiso-responder-a-las-potentes-maquinas-alemanas-con-dos-8-cilindros-de-540-cv\/\">el monoplaza 16C<\/a> que hab\u00eda sido dise\u00f1ado en 1935. (O casi)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El segundo motor ha sustituido a los asientos traseros: la banqueta trasera ha desaparecido y una cubierta desmontable permite acceder al motor para facilitar el mantenimiento, esencial en las carreras de larga distancia. El dep\u00f3sito de combustible se ha aumentado hasta unos 80 litros para compensar el consumo simult\u00e1neo de los dos motores. Dos tomas de aire laterales de color negro albergan dos radiadores con ventiladores el\u00e9ctricos para refrigerar el segundo motor, adem\u00e1s de un radiador de aceite adicional. Tambi\u00e9n se utilizaban suspensiones MacPherson y frenos de disco en ambos ejes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambas cajas de cambios est\u00e1n unidas a la misma palanca de cambios central y ambos embragues se accionan mediante el mismo pedal. Se ha instalado un sistema de escape independiente para el segundo motor, y la instrumentaci\u00f3n se ha duplicado para permitir el control de ambos motores. Aunque era posible hacer funcionar un solo motor a la vez, si el coche quer\u00eda avanzar, ambos deb\u00edan estar en marcha. Las cifras eran impresionantes para un coche tan at\u00edpico: promet\u00eda una aceleraci\u00f3n de 0 a 100 km\/h en unos 8,2 segundos y una velocidad m\u00e1xima declarada de 215 km\/h.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u00ed pues, a pesar de su atrevido dise\u00f1o y de su potencial, este Alfasud bimotor nunca lleg\u00f3 a participar en ning\u00fan rally importante. La mec\u00e1nica y la transmisi\u00f3n debieron causar muchos problemas. Lo m\u00e1s que tenemos son fotograf\u00edas que muestran pruebas intensivas en condiciones dif\u00edciles y nevadas. Se qued\u00f3 en la fase de prototipo, pero escap\u00f3 al desguace.
