Sin embargo, cuando se lanz\u00f3 en 1984, esta berlina elegante y racional escond\u00eda bajo su discreto aspecto una innovaci\u00f3n que pocos conocen: un aler\u00f3n delantero escamoteable, controlado autom\u00e1ticamente en funci\u00f3n de la velocidad. Entre la herencia deportiva de los a\u00f1os 70 y la llegada de nuevos est\u00e1ndares de confort, la marca buscaba reinventarse. El 90, presentado en noviembre de 1984 en el Sal\u00f3n de Tur\u00edn y dise\u00f1ado por Bertone, se basaba en los fundamentos t\u00e9cnicos del Alfetta, con arquitectura transaxle (motor delante, caja de cambios y eje detr\u00e1s). El sistema, mec\u00e1nico y controlado por resortes de gas, mejora la estabilidad a alta velocidad, la penetraci\u00f3n del aire y la refrigeraci\u00f3n del motor. Los motores de cuatro cilindros van de 1,8 a 2,0 litros (de 128 a 130 CV), mientras que las versiones superiores reciben los nobles motores Busso V6 de 2,0 y 2,5 litros, que desarrollan hasta 156 CV. La amortiguaci\u00f3n original es un poco blanda y la caja de cambios es larga, lo que suaviza el temperamento del coche; muchos propietarios que la han endurecido (amortiguadores adaptativos\/m\u00e1s duros) describen el coche como mucho mejor comportado. Hubo varias razones para este fracaso:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Posicionamiento poco claro: intercalado entre el Alfetta al que sustitu\u00eda y el nuevo 75 (m\u00e1s din\u00e1mico y menos caro), el 90 no promet\u00eda nada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El estilo era demasiado conservador: las l\u00edneas c\u00fabicas de Bertone carec\u00edan del \"factor sorpresa\" de Alfa, y la parte trasera causaba divisi\u00f3n.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Un producto de compromiso: muchos elementos Alfetta en el habit\u00e1culo, espacio decente pero no a la altura de sus rivales, y ergonom\u00eda confusa (mandos superiores, instrumentaci\u00f3n LED en algunos).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imagen de fiabilidad debilitada: peque\u00f1os fallos el\u00e9ctricos\/electr\u00f3nicos, especialmente en las versiones con cuadro de mandos digital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La caja de cambios y el chasis son civilizados, haciendo que el coche sea tan agradable de conducir como un gran turismo, pero ofreciendo pocas sensaciones \"puristas\" en la producci\u00f3n en serie, que es lo que destacaban las pruebas respecto a los rivales alemanes... y el 75 interno.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contexto industrial: Alfa en dificultades financieras antes de la adquisici\u00f3n por Fiat (1986), comercializaci\u00f3n y actualizaci\u00f3n de productos limitadas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Como resultado, s\u00f3lo se fabricaron 56.328 ejemplares del 90 entre 1984 y 1987, antes de ser sustituido por el m\u00e1s moderno 164, un producto del grupo Fiat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un coche innovador, discreto y olvidado<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, el 90 contaba con una serie de caracter\u00edsticas \u00fanicas, incluyendo un spoiler delantero activo, un malet\u00edn integrado, instrumentaci\u00f3n digital en algunos niveles de acabado y, sobre todo, el Busso V6 que lo hizo tan memorable. Cuarenta a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, es un Alfa Romeo con clase propia: un buen turismo de car\u00e1cter tranquilo, injustamente eclipsado por el 75.
