Un sue\u00f1o italoamericano, nacido en California, en San Francisco, y fabricado en Italia, en M\u00f3dena. <strong>El \u00fanico coche comercializado fue el Mangusta, llamado as\u00ed por el modelo De Tomaso del mismo nombre.<\/strong> L\u00f3gico, dado que el coche deber\u00eda haberse llamado originalmente De Tomaso. La historia del Manugsta es tambi\u00e9n la historia de un embrollo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un viejo amigo al rescate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A principios de los a\u00f1os 90, el legendario fundador Alessandro de Tomaso ten\u00eda problemas de salud, pero tambi\u00e9n deb\u00eda salvar su marca moribunda. Su \"imperio\" ya hab\u00eda tenido que vender Maserati, Innocenti y Moto Guzzi para llenar sus arcas. La Pantera envejece y la Guara es un fracaso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspirado por TR Griffith, <strong>En 1996, De Tomaso present\u00f3 un concepto llamado Bigua, pero no pudo pasar de la fase de prototipo sin una inversi\u00f3n financiera adecuada.<\/strong> Tras ser rechazado por el gobierno italiano, De Tomaso recurri\u00f3 a un viejo conocido, la familia Qvale, de origen noruego, que llevaba importando de Tomaso a Estados Unidos desde los a\u00f1os sesenta, as\u00ed como Maserati, cuando el Tridente hab\u00eda pasado bajo bandera argentina. El padre, Kjell, fue el primer importador de Jaguar en la costa oeste e incluso propietario de la marca brit\u00e1nica Jensen, hasta su quiebra en 1976. <strong>A Bruce, su hijo, le convenci\u00f3 la idea e invirti\u00f3 en De Tomaso, convirti\u00e9ndose en su accionista mayoritario.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mangosta rompe una vieja amistad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salvo que todo se torci\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente. <strong>Entre De Tomaso y Qvale no s\u00f3lo hay diferencias sobre el proyecto, sino sobre todo una lucha de poder.<\/strong> De Tomaso no ten\u00eda ninguna intenci\u00f3n de verse despose\u00eddo de su marca.  En 1998, la familia Qvale cre\u00f3 Qvale Modena SpA para producir el Mangusta. As\u00ed pues, aunque el modelo se present\u00f3 en el Sal\u00f3n del Autom\u00f3vil de Los \u00c1ngeles de 2000 con el nombre De Tomaso, y los primeros modelos se fabricaron con esta insignia, posteriormente la producci\u00f3n pas\u00f3 a Qvale. <strong>Como consecuencia, los primeros compradores tuvieron que acudir al concesionario para que les sustituyeran las placas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a1No es un look f\u00e1cil!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Este cambio, por cierto, ya condena el modelo, ya que Qvale no tiene legitimidad, \u00a1y es dif\u00edcil de pronunciar! Y sin embargo, participaron algunos talentos de renombre: El chasis fue dise\u00f1ado por Enrique Scalabroni, antiguo dise\u00f1ador de F\u00f3rmula 1 con una s\u00f3lida experiencia en Dallara, Williams y Ferrari. Las l\u00edneas del Mangusta son m\u00e1s bien desordenadas y macizas, con una l\u00ednea de techo muy alta y, sobre todo, un frontal fallido con un aler\u00f3n en forma de pinza y unos faros feos, ocultos por la parrilla, que parecen sacados de un Ford Ka. Hay algunos detalles at\u00edpicos, como los pasos de rueda traseros inclinados del Mangusta, marca de la casa Gandini. En cuanto a la popa, presenta un parachoques at\u00edpico en el que destacan las luces alojadas tras una parrilla negra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a1Pero con originalidad!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El Mangusta utiliza un generoso motor de 4,6 litros derivado del Ford Mustang, que incluso recibir\u00e1 una preparaci\u00f3n Saleen. Lo que realmente distingue a este supercoche es su exclusivo mecanismo de techo \"roto-top\", que se desliza hacia delante para permitir retirar el panel central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mangusta-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mangusta-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mangusta-2-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mangusta-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/mangusta-2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Foto Boris Adolf para RM Sotheby's<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00f3lo hay tres pasos para desmontar la estructura: retirar el ligero panel central soltando dos pestillos (10 segundos), bajar la secci\u00f3n targa con pulsador detr\u00e1s de los asientos o enfrentarse a un vendaval a m\u00e1s de 65 km\/h (10 segundos) y guardar el panel central en el maletero (10 minutos).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En contraste con el caprichoso exterior, el interior es cl\u00e1sico pero muy elegante y bien acabado. Visteon, la divisi\u00f3n de posventa de Ford, suministra gran parte del habit\u00e1culo y ha sido galardonada con un logotipo grabado en relieve en el respaldo de los asientos. El salpicadero, los asientos y los guarnecidos forrados en cuero son exclusivos del Mangusta y presentan kil\u00f3metros de costuras triples perfectamente pespunteadas. Sofisticadas molduras cromadas rodean la palanca de cambios, cada tirador de puerta y la placa del aire acondicionado. La ventanilla lateral no se baja del todo, y s\u00f3lo se puede acceder al freno de mano izquierdo metiendo torpemente el brazo entre el panel de la puerta y el asiento. <strong>Entre 2000 y 2002, Qvale fabric\u00f3 284 coches, la mayor\u00eda exportados a Estados Unidos. <\/strong>La falta de una marca reconocida, la recesi\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica y el inusual dise\u00f1o dificultaron la comercializaci\u00f3n del coche.
