Born out of an initiative by an independent tuner, Romeo Ferraris, and developed without official support Alfa Romeo<\/a>\u00a0(which was not the case with the Audi RS3 and other Honda Civic TCRs), the\u2019Alfa Romeo Giulietta<\/a> TCR competed against the most powerful manufacturers in global touring car racing before becoming a \u201cCustomer Racing\u201d car, sold to private teams on several continents. The latest news? Alfa Romeo Giulietta cars are about to return to action with a team that dominates Alfa Romeo\u2019s historic races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romeo Ferraris, a craftsman up against the major manufacturers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unveiled in 2015, the first version to compete starting in 2016 was a Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde that complied with TCR regulations. Romeo Ferraris operates as an independent manufacturer, without factory support\u2014much like David against Goliath. The prototype was developed through numerous test sessions in Italy by Michela Cerruti and Salvatore Tavano.\u00a0It won its first international races in 2017, then claimed victory in the WTCR at Suzuka in 2018, before giving way to the upgraded Giulietta Veloce TCR in 2019. The car reached its peak in 2020 with the WTCR Trophy title and a third-place finish in the drivers\u2019 championship for Jean-Karl Vernay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the official Romeo Ferraris program in the WTCR came to an end in late 2020, the cars continued to race in various national and regional series. In 2021, the cars competed notably in TCR Australia, TCR Japan, TCR Denmark, and the IMSA Challenge in the U.S. \u00a0One of the finest examples of the project\u2019s longevity comes from the United States. KMW Motorsport, with the support of Romeo Ferraris, is fielding a Giulietta Veloce TCR<\/a> in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. The team won several races, including three IMSA victories in 2023, and was in contention for the title for a while. The car raced until 2024, before being replaced by a new-generation Civic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romeo Ferraris reports that approximately 30 Giulietta TCR\/Veloce TCR cars have been built and are currently racing or have raced in various national and regional championships. By comparison, some TCR cars produced by major automakers\u2014such as the Civic, the Cupra Leon TCR, and the Audi RS3\u2014have been manufactured in the hundreds. Other Giulietta TCRs have found a home in hill climbing<\/a>, with some success in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfa Delta: Another Story of Passion for Alfa Romeo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2026, the story took an unexpected turn. Alfa Delta Racing Team, an organization previously best known for its restoration of historic Alfa Romeo cars, brought two Romeo Ferraris Giulietta Veloce TCRs back into service. The cars were serviced, refurbished, and unveiled under the new Alfa Delta branding. Their first shakedown, at the Tazio Nuvolari circuit, marked the return of these machines to the Italian motorsports scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded by Roberto Restelli in 2012 in Marnate, in the province of Varese, Alfa Delta has become, in just a few years, a leader in the field of historic Alfa Romeo race cars.\u00a0Since 2019, Alfa Delta has operated from a much larger facility that houses a mechanical workshop, a body shop, a restoration department, a historic car preparation area, and an engine test room. The company also provides on-track support for national and international competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team has built a solid reputation in the Alfa Revival Cup and Peter Auto\u2019s international races, fielding Giulietta SVZ, Giulietta SZ, Giulia TZ, GTA, and GTAm models. Alfa Delta also works with OKP, a German specialist in historic Alfa Romeo parts.\u00a0This close integration of preparation, restoration, and competition largely accounts for the team\u2019s reputation. For example, the team competed in the N\u00fcrburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix with several GTAs, including one driven by Christian Danner, a former F1 driver who also competed in the DTM in the 1990s with the 155 V6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, Alfa Delta OKP won the team standings, while Peter Bachofen and Dario Inhelder clinched the drivers\u2019 title in a 1971 GTAm. In 2026, Alfa Delta continued to field a large fleet of historic cars: GTAm, GTA, Giulia TZ, and others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
