The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Ghibli, Levante, and Grecale, have all used the GME four-cylinder engine developed during the FCA era. And above that is the famous 3.0-liter Hurricane, an inline-six that belongs to this same engine family. For a long time, it was easy to imagine this engine under the hood of future Alfa Romeo models based on the STLA Large platform. In an alternate automotive universe, a Giulia, a Stelvio, or even a new GTV equipped with this six-cylinder engine wouldn\u2019t have been entirely far-fetched. But while the roadmaps for Alfa Romeo and Maserati remain uncertain in Europe, in the United States, Stellantis is indeed putting this combination to use in the new Dodge Charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 550 to nearly 1,000 hp<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Charger Sixpack Scat Pack comes standard with the Hurricane High Output engine producing 550 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Dodge has even just unveiled a Super Bee variant. increased to 600 hp<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But to gauge the engine's true potential, you have to look to John O\u2019Malley and Boosted Motorsports. To participate in the Direct Connection Influencer Grudge Match<\/em> At the \u00abRoadkill Nights 2026\u00bb event, O\u2019Malley completely transformed his Dodge Charger. The two stock turbochargers have been replaced by a single HPT 7172, paired with a massive air-to-air intercooler and a MoTeC engine management system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Result: While his previous Hurricane build produced about 850 hp, his 2026 Charger is now expected to produce close to 1,000 hp. The Detroit News<\/em> For its part, it boasts power output exceeding 900 hp. This performance is all the more impressive given that the car retains its all-wheel-drive system. However, the ZF 8HP transmission has been modified by Pure Drivetrain Solutions and equipped with a Turbolamik controller to handle and harness this power, which is considerably greater than the stock output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
