Nearly two years later The unveiling of the Ferrari F80<\/a>, the Maranello-based automaker appears to already be planning the next step. While the first deliveries of the 799 units began at the end of 2025, a heavily camouflaged prototype has just been spotted undergoing testing on the streets of Maranello. And despite its zebra-striped camouflage, one detail immediately catches the eye: Ferrari<\/a> is reportedly working on a convertible version of its hypercar, likely to be named F80 Spider<\/em> or F80 Aperta<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These photos look every bit like an unintentional \u00abspoiler.\u00bb Ferrari hasn\u2019t made anything official yet, but the prototype\u2019s proportions and several body parts clearly match the F80<\/a>. The main change is to the roof, which now appears to be removable and made of fabric rather than a retractable rigid panel. This is a logical choice to minimize weight gain in a car where every kilogram counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A successor to the LaFerrari Aperta<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The introduction of an F80 Spider would be far from insignificant in the history of the Ferrari supercars<\/a>. Contrary to what one might think, the brand\u2019s most iconic models have almost never been available in a true convertible version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ferrari 288 GTO<\/a> has never been produced as a Spider, nor has the legendary F40<\/a>. The F50<\/a> It stood out as an exception with its removable hardtop, which came with a soft fabric top, but it wasn't a true Spider version developed in parallel. As for the\u2019Enzo<\/a>, it has never had an open variant. It wasn't until the LaFerrari<\/a> to see Ferrari return to this tradition with the spectacular LaFerrari Aperta. With only 209 units produced\u2014compared to 499 coupes\u2014it is now one of the most coveted modern Ferraris. Everything suggests, then, that the F80 will follow this same philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even more exclusive than the F80<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beneath its camouflage, the prototype doesn\u2019t appear to be hiding any major aesthetic changes. The front end retains its very horizontal design, while the imposing active rear wing and central exhaust are still present. The powertrain is not expected to change either. The future Spider version would reportedly feature the F80\u2019s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine, paired with an electric front axle and the Formula 1-derived MGU-K system. The powertrain still produces 1,200 ch, which would make it one of the most powerful convertibles ever produced by Ferrari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One key question remains: how many will be built? Ferrari is, of course, keeping quiet, but if the strategy used for the LaFerrari Aperta is repeated, this F80 Spider will be produced in very limited numbers.
