Seven years after its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the De Tomaso P72<\/a> continues to inspire. This time, it's not a prototype or mock-up that's making the news, but one of the first cars destined for a customer. Named \u00abAurelian Night\u00bb, this custom-built order marks an important milestone for the Italian automaker, which is finally starting to deliver its spectacular supercar, produced in just 72 units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first P72 ready to hit the road<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On April 24, De Tomaso posted an enigmatic message on its social networks: \u00abOur first P72, ready for delivery\u00bb. At the time, De Tomaso evoked a unique body with rose gold accents, without revealing further details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, the brand promised a full reveal in May 2026. In the end, we had to wait until the beginning of June to discover this creation christened \u00abAurelian Night\u00bb, a P72 built according to the precise wishes of its owner. For De Tomaso, this car represents much more than a simple delivery. It symbolizes the entry into a new phase of the P72 project, long-awaited since its unveiling in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by a fleeting moment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the automaker, the \u00abAurelian Night\u00bb commission was born of a simple idea: to capture the special atmosphere of a summer evening as day gradually gives way to night. This inspiration is reflected in a deep midnight-blue hue that covers the entire body. In the light of the setting sun, the paint reveals different shades, while the hand-polished rose gold elements provide a warm, elegant contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photos released by De Tomaso particularly highlight this customization work. Wheels, body trim, mirrors and many exterior details adopt this rose gold finish, which changes visually according to the angle of the light. The interior follows the same philosophy, with Venetian blue leather covering the seats, dashboard and various interior panels. Rose gold stitching creates a direct link between exterior and interior, in an aesthetic coherence rarely taken to such extremes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A supercar against the tide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The P72 occupies a special place in today's automotive landscape. While most modern hypercars rely on automatic transmissions, hybridization or ubiquitous digital technologies, De Tomaso has chosen a decidedly more emotional approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beneath its spectacular bodywork, inspired by the racing prototypes of the 1960s, lies a carbon monocoque chassis derived from that of the Apollo Intensa Emozione. The powertrain is just as singular: a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 from Ford, prepared by Roush Performance, developing around 700 hp and over 800 Nm of torque. The detail that will appeal most to purists is undoubtedly the presence of a six-speed manual gearbox. An absolute rarity in this category of vehicles, capable of reaching speeds of up to 360 km\/h and sprinting from 0 to 100 km\/h in less than three seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start of deliveries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With only 72 examples planned worldwide, each P72 is destined to be a one-off. De Tomaso explains that each car is developed in close collaboration between the customer and the brand's workshop, to create a personal interpretation of the model. The \u2019Aurelian Night\u00ab is one of the first examples of this philosophy. The P72 will take part in a number of events over the course of the year, before finally reaching its owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
