For many\u2019Alfa Romeo<\/a>the 75<\/a> is already a car in a class of its own. The brand's last rear-wheel drive sports sedan before a very long hiatus, it has become a veritable icon over the years. But the example that has just appeared on the Italian market is even more exceptional: this Alfa Romeo 75 3000 V6 Group A not only raced in rallies, it also belonged to the Squadra Corse of the Polizia di Stato, the official competition team of the Italian police. Today, it is offered for sale for \u20ac145,000, the price of a used Ferrari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the Italian police were rallying<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, its blue-and-white livery stamped with the word \u00abPolizia\u00bb might seem like a decoration designed to attract attention at a car show. But this Alfa Romeo 75 is anything but a simple styling exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Italian police had a genuine competition team. The cars bore the official colors of the police force, had their own service license plates and were driven by active police officers. An initiative now almost forgotten, but one that gave rise to some particularly rare models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them is this Alfa Romeo 75 Groupe A, prepared by Alfa Corse on the basis of the restyling launched in 1988. Of the 16 chassis built for competition, only two would have received the mythical 3-liter V6 Busso engine. This car is one of those two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The V6 Busso in all its glory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under the hood is one of the most beloved engines in Alfa Romeo history: the 3.0-liter V6 Busso. In its rally configuration, it developed around 260 hp, and even up to 286 hp according to some technical data sheets. Combined with the famous transaxle architecture and rear-mounted five-speed gearbox, it offered remarkable balance and particularly effective handling on special stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Alfa Corse didn't just install a more powerful engine. The car benefited from a fully adjustable suspension, a much lighter body and a Brembo braking system inspired by technologies developed by Alfa Romeo in Formula 1 a few years earlier. The interior was reduced to the essentials: a Recaro bucket seat, a few analog instruments and all the equipment required for racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A discreet but very real career<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This Alfa Romeo 75 made its racing debut on October 22, 1989 at the Rallye di Roma. A few weeks later, it took part in the Giro d'Italia Automobilistico, before continuing its career with the crew of Vittorio Gommoso and Giorgio Nardin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1989 and 1992, the blue-and-white sedan took part in some 15 official events. Notable rallies include Rally delle Polizie Europee, Rally del Casentino, Rally della Lanterna and Alto Appennino Reggiano. Its sporting history is fully documented in its technical passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
