Transformed to resemble a Maserati Trofeo-inspired racing version, complete with spoiler, special wheels and flashy livery, it immediately attracts attention. \u00abIt looks like a life-size Hot Wheels,\u00bb explains its owner. But above all, despite its condition, the price is unbeatable. Elliot is convinced that not even the worst Maserati can be found at this price. Being in the right place at the right time enabled him to score a rare bargain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A rare... and historic model for Maserati<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Behind its spectacular appearance, this Maserati also hides a very special feature. It is one of the GT versions equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, much rarer than the Cambia Corsa models with robotized gearboxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Better still, it's one of the last Maseratis to be offered with a manual gearbox, a detail that totally changes the driving experience. Reliability... finally less catastrophic than expected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Against all expectations, the car didn't turn out to be as disastrous as its reputation suggested. True, Elliot had to invest around double the purchase price in repairs, but the overall cost remained under the $10,000 mark. Mechanically, the Maserati fares rather well. The main incident of note was a broken gearbox linkage on the racetrack, requiring an improvised repair. As for the rest, it's mostly a question of minor electronic and finishing issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
