Cette solution audacieuse doit apporter plus de surface de contact au sol, donc plus d\u2019adh\u00e9rence, tout en r\u00e9duisant la tra\u00een\u00e9e. D\u2019ailleurs, d\u00e8s 1977, l\u2019\u00e9curie Tyrrell recule dans la hi\u00e9rarchie, faute de pouvoir poursuivre le d\u00e9veloppement de ce concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e8s fin 1976, le magazine italien Autosprint \u00e9voque les rumeurs concernant une Ferrari \u00ab 6 roues \u00bb, sans la moindre photographie pour l\u2019\u00e9tayer. Mais la rumeur \u00e9tait bien fond\u00e9e&#8230;A la diff\u00e9rence de Tyrrell, Ferrari reprit l\u2019id\u00e9e des Auto-Union d\u2019avant-guerre ou de l\u2019Alfa Romeo V16&nbsp;: des roues jumelles mont\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re, sur le m\u00eame essieu, et de m\u00eame taille que les roues avant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un d\u00e9fi technique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lors d&rsquo;essais men\u00e9s en mars 1977 \u00e0 Fiorano, Sante Ghedini, responsable des relations publiques de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/ferrari\/\">Ferrari<\/a>, invita un petit groupe de photographes et de journalistes \u00e0 cesser toute prise de photos, car la Scuderia allait r\u00e9v\u00e9ler son secret. Une fois les essais termin\u00e9s sur la 312T2, Niki Lauda pris alors place dans une monoplace d\u00e9nomm\u00e9e 312T6. C\u2019est donc bien vrai : la Scuderia exp\u00e9rimentait une voiture avec six roues ! L\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait que la roue interne puisse tourner moins vite que l\u2019externe dans les virages.\u00a0Ce syst\u00e8me cependant posait d\u2019autres contraintes, comme la liaison \u00e0 la bo\u00eete de vitesses, le surpoids engendr\u00e9 et la r\u00e9partition des masses.\u00a0Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le seul souci : le plus \u00e9vident, c\u2019est que la 312T6 d\u00e9passait la largeur maximale r\u00e8glementaire des monoplaces ! La T6 faisait 2,14 m\u00e8tres de large, contre 2,03 \u00e0 la T2. Ce qu\u2019elle gagnait en longueur sur la P34, elle le perdait en largeur. On imagine aussi les difficult\u00e9s de pilotage \u00e0 Monaco, o\u00f9 l\u2019on passe pr\u00e8s des rails&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ferrari-312-t6-proto-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ferrari-312-t6-proto-4.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ferrari-312-t6-proto-4-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ferrari-312-t6-proto-4-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ferrari-312-t6-proto-4-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Illustration Italpassion<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Casse-t\u00eate \u00e0 la gomme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les pneus posaient aussi d\u2019autres soucis, avec des d\u00e9formations radiales importantes \u00e0 haute vitesse, r\u00e9duisant consid\u00e9rablement la surface de contact avec l&rsquo;asphalte et l&rsquo;agilit\u00e9 de la voiture.&nbsp;Ferrari testa finalement une autre solution avec des pneus arri\u00e8re jumel\u00e9s r\u00e9duits qui r\u00e9duisaient la tra\u00een\u00e9e, une hauteur de caisse abaiss\u00e9e de 6 centim\u00e8tres pour am\u00e9liorer le centre de gravit\u00e9, un flux d\u2019air am\u00e9lior\u00e9 et moins de d\u00e9formation.&nbsp;Le poids induit par les pneus et les jantes suppl\u00e9mentaires, le tout \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re, n\u00e9cessitait de renforcer la carrosserie et la suspension. La voiture re\u00e7ut ainsi des modifications suppl\u00e9mentaires, notamment la r\u00e9duction de la longueur des arbres de transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cependant, la fabrication des pneumatiques sp\u00e9ciaux eux-m\u00eames restait d\u00e9licate. Comme cela avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 constat\u00e9 avec la Tyrrell P34, les contrats d&rsquo;exclusivit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une \u00e9curie avec un fournisseur de pneumatiques constituaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 un probl\u00e8me majeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La FIA met le hol\u00e0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s d\u2019autres s\u00e9ances infructueuses avec Lauda et Regazzoni, dont une qui se termina par un crash, Ferrari annon\u00e7a au printemps 1977 la fin des essais de la T6 tant que Goodyear n&rsquo;aurait pas fourni de pneumatiques sp\u00e9ciaux.&nbsp;Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit, la FIA finit par interdire les voitures \u00e0 six roues en 1982, alors que Williams planchait sur une monoplace similaire dont les essais \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s prometteurs. Ferrari avait m\u00eame fait fuiter en 1976 la photo d\u2019une 312T8 \u00e0 8 roues (quatre \u00e0 l\u2019avant, quatre \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re). Il s\u2019agissait \u00e9videmment d\u2019un photomontage, qui faisait partie de l\u2019intox habituelle pour inciter d\u2019autres \u00e9curies \u00e0 se lancer inutilement dans des projets de d\u00e9veloppements co\u00fbteux en temps et en ressources.
