Grannies put up a fight <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since 2025, this Australian-based fast-laps competition has been offering a new category called Hypercar Challenge, an exclusive competition showcasing the capabilities of the world's most advanced on-track hypercars. And guess what? Of the 4 cars selected, three are Italian!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, the Brabham BT62, which honours the great Australian figure Jack Brabham, is accompanied by three French thoroughbreds: the Pagani Zonda R<\/a>the Pagani Huayra R<\/a> and the Ferrari FXX. Each hypercar embodies the pinnacle of advanced engineering, designed specifically to deliver maximum downforce and exceptional high-speed track performance, without compromise. And yet, they are beginning to show their age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pagani tornadoes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pagani Zonda R and Huayra R, produced from 2009 and 2021 respectively, are distinguished by their lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and naturally-aspirated AMG V12 engines: the venerable Zonda develops over 740 hp and the Huayra 850 hp, all optimized for precision and aerodynamics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the record, the Huaya R was developed by HWA, AMG's co-founding tuner. Weighing just 1,060 kilos, the Huayra R comes in an extended longtail version, with more than 1,000 kilos of aero support generated at 320 km\/h, and an Inconel exhaust (as used in F1) that guarantees exceptional vocals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FXX pioneer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ferrari FXX, meanwhile, is the doyenne of the category. Introduced in 2004, it is based on the\u2019Enzo<\/a> and inaugurated the track-only FXX class. Ferrari's Corse Clienti program began in this way, launching the fashion for \u201ctrack days\u201d cars that all sports car manufacturers now offer. The 48-valve, 6.2-liter V12, again purely naturally-aspirated, develops 800 hp and almost 700 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we're dealing with pure hypercars, powered by exceptional naturally-aspirated engines, without hybridization or the other gimmicks that have become commonplace. What do they have in common? They were all produced in very limited series, usually no more than thirty examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the wheel, seasoned Supercars drivers Tim Slade, Fraser Ross and James Golding will pilot these cars, using their expertise to extract optimum performance and push the limits of these hypercars in a pure time-trial format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hypercar Challenge pushes the boundaries between power, aerodynamics and driver skill on the demanding Sydney Motorsport Park circuit, where supremacy is decided by tenths of a second. The event takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on September 4 and 5, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
