After a timid European launch in 2025, the Fiat Grande Panda<\/a> is finally starting to show encouraging signs in its home market. Figures for the first months of 2026 in Italy show a clear progression for the new model. But one reality remains unchanged: in the peninsula, the historic Panda remains a commercial machine almost impossible to dethrone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An encouraging start to 2026 for the Grande Panda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fiat<\/a> is counting heavily on the Grande Panda to boost its presence in Europe. However, 2025 left a mixed taste.<\/a>. European volumes were down, and the model's ramp-up seemed slower than expected, notably due to production constraints and a gradual launch in several markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the first figures for 2026 show a more positive dynamic, at least in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2026, the Fiat Grande Panda had already climbed to 4\u1d49 place in the Italian market with 3,299 registrations. A respectable performance for a model still in its ramp-up phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following month confirmed this progression. In February 2026, the Grande Panda climbed to the top of the podium with 5,500 registrations, ranking third in national sales. It was just behind the Jeep Avenger, in second place with 5,984 units. A result which shows that the new model is finally beginning to find its audience on the Italian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Panda remains the undisputed queen of Italy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite this progress, the hierarchy remains very clear. In Italy, the real star is still Panda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2026, the older generation dominated the market by a wide margin, with 13,308 registrations - more than four times the volume of the Grande Panda. In February, its dominance remained just as impressive, with 12,603 units, easily retaining top spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exceptional longevity is nothing new. For more than a decade, the Panda has been an almost indispensable car in Italy, thanks to its simple, affordable positioning, perfectly suited to local use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Grande Panda, the aim is not necessarily to immediately replace this icon, but rather to broaden Fiat's customer base in the upper segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A still very Italian progression<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the Grande Panda finally seems to be taking off in Italy, the situation is much more mixed elsewhere in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • In France, volumes remain very modest, with 445 registrations in January 2026, followed by 391 in February. As a result, ramp-up is much slower in France.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • In Germany, the situation is a little better, with 972 units in January 2026, although February figures are not yet available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • In Spain, sales remained weak with 161 registrations in January and 155 in February.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    In other words, for the time being, the Grande Panda's momentum is most evident in its home market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A crucial model for Fiat's future in Europe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This Italian progress comes at a strategic time for Fiat. By 2025, the brand was more dependent than ever on South America. Brazil remained Fiat's number-one market worldwide, ahead of Italy, while Argentina occupied third place. Behind them came Turkey, Germany, France and Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Without these two Latin American markets, Fiat's volumes would have fallen dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Against this backdrop, the Grande Panda is an essential part of the automaker's European strategy. It should enable Fiat to re-enter a hotly contested segment in Europe, with models such as the Citro\u00ebn C3, the Dacia Sandero and the Toyota Yaris Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Early signs from Italy are therefore encouraging. But the real question remains: can the Grande Panda replicate this success in the rest of Europe?
