On August 30, 2023, the\u2019Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale<\/a> revived a myth. Presented as a direct homage to the legendary Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale unveiled on August 31, 1967, this supercar, produced in just 33 examples, marked the grand return of\u2019Alfa Romeo<\/a> into the exclusive world of exceptional sports cars. But behind this spectacular launch was another vital piece of information: the 33 Stradale would only be the first in a series of limited-edition supercars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strategy already written in 2022<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the project was launched long before its official presentation. Marketing of the 33 Stradale began as early as the Monza Grand Prix in September 2022, proof that Alfa Romeo had been working behind the scenes for a long time. The first model was delivered on December 17, 2024, and production of the 33 units is due to be completed by December 2026. In other words, while the last chassis are still being assembled, the next supercar is already in the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in September 2023, the brand confirmed that this new model, like the 33 Stradale, would be inspired by an icon from its history. The field is vast: Alfa Romeo Montreal could be a logical candidate. But another model seems even more symbolic in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if Alfa Romeo resurrected the Spider Duetto?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We're obviously thinking of the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto. A legendary model, presented on March 10, 1966, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026<\/a>. After a supercar coup\u00e9, unveiling a Spider would make sense. The modern 33 Stradale was a closed, sculptural, radical tribute. Why not imagine a convertible for the second chapter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timing is intriguing. March 2026 is fast approaching, and we'll also have to wait for the presentation of Antonio Filosa's industrial plan, scheduled for May 2026, to get a clear vision of the brand's future. Coincidentally, Alfa Romeo was showcasing a Spider Duetto at R\u00e9tromobile 2026. Simple coincidence or discreet signal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centro Stile or the return of Pininfarina?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If this hypothesis is confirmed, another question is already exciting Alfisti: who will sign the design? The original model was designed by Pininfarina. Imagining a new Alfa Romeo with this signature on the rocker panel would be a dream come true for many enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has demonstrated with the 33 Stradale that it is capable of delivering spectacular work in-house. Alfa Romeo could also opt for collaboration, as was the case with Zagato for the Giulia SWB<\/a>. The choice of partner will speak volumes about the project's artistic ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A familiar technical base?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under the body, the scenario is clearer. The 33 Stradale is based on the Maserati MC20. However, the latter exists in a Spider version, the Maserati MC20 Cielo. Technically, the platform already allows for a convertible version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One key question remains: engine architecture. On the modern 33 Stradale, the V6 is positioned centrally at the rear. On the original Spider Duetto, the engine was at the front. Alfa Romeo had to decide between historical fidelity and pure performance. A Spider with a rear mid-engine would reinforce the supercar positioning. A front engine, on the other hand, would embody the original GT spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Touring Superleggera at the controls?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As for assembly, it's highly likely that the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera workshops will be called upon once again, as they were for the 33 Stradale. Their craftsmanship is perfectly suited to the ultra-limited production Alfa Romeo is planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can already imagine the scene: a new-generation Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto, convertible with canvas top, sensual lines, twin-turbo V6 engine and, why not, let's be bold... a manual gearbox. It would be a manifesto. A declaration of love to pure driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfa Romeo revived the dream with the 33 Stradale. The next supercar could well turn that dream into reality. Could 2026 be the year of the Spider's return to the supercar segment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
