2025 is fast becoming the year of the Ferrari F40 for sale. After the mysterious Phantom F40 with almost unreal mileage in June<\/a>the F40 blue chip<\/a> offered shortly afterwards, the estimated at nearly $10 million in July<\/a>then the exclusive F40 Verde Fortunato<\/a> which appeared in August, a new star is about to enter the auction ring. And not the least: the Ferrari F40 delivered new to four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome gift for the new king of Maranello<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The story of this F40 begins in November 1989, at a pivotal moment in the career of Alain Prost, nicknamed \"Le Professeur\". At the end of the season, with his third world title under his belt, the Frenchman left McLaren and joined Ferrari<\/a> for 1990. He became the first driver hired by the Scuderia since the death of Enzo Ferrari. As a welcome gift, what could be more natural than to hand him the keys to the world's fastest car, the F40, of which only 1,315 were produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chassis number 83249, a model destined for the Swiss market, was built in the purest configuration: without catalytic converters or adjustable suspension. Prost took delivery... but never used it. Before reselling it, he signed the car's roof, a signature that was later protected by a transparent varnish still visible today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The long career of the F40<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After Prost, driver and collector Graham de Zille acquired the F40. The car then appeared in the April 1997 issue of Motor Sport magazine, in a feature bringing together three icons: the F40, the 288 GTO and the F50. Journalist Andrew Frankel was captivated, and famously wrote: \"In the art of controlled savagery, the F40 has no equal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following years saw the supercar travel between the UK, Jersey and France, always in the hands of careful enthusiasts. In 2016, it even obtained Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming that it retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox and bodywork. The same year, it was invited to Maranello for the competition celebrating Ferrari's 70th anniversary. It took a remarkable second place in class, further proof of its exceptional condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the other highlights of its recent life, Ferrari Lyon is replacing the bladders in 2019, an operation validated until 2028, before a full service is carried out in October 2025 at Emil Frey Sportivo, official Ferrari dealer in Munich. To date, the car has clocked up just 2,961 miles (4,765 km), a derisory figure for a 1989 F40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An F40 recently seen on the market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly, this same Alain Prost F40 had already made headlines in May 2023, when it was offered for sale at an estimated price of between 2,500,000 and 3,000,000 euros. Two years later, as the F40 market soars and exceptional examples multiply on the auction block, the car is back stronger than ever, buoyed by its unique pedigree and an explosion of interest in the model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This F40 will be offered at auction in Abu Dhabi on December 5, 2025, with an estimate of between 3.2 and 3.7 million dollars (2.7 and 3.1 million euros). A colossal sum, certainly, but ultimately coherent for an example with very low mileage, certified, perfectly documented and, above all, linked to one of the greatest drivers of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
