Three years after its launch, theAlfa Romeo<\/a> Tonale is already getting a facelift. An unexpected but strategic restyling for the Italian brand, which is seeking to boost sales of its compact SUV in the face of the growing success of the new Alfa Romeo Junior. Officially presented on October 14, 2025, the new Tonale embodies more than ever the sporty, elegant DNA of the Biscione.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this restyling is crucial for Alfa Romeo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Launched in 2022, the Tonale was to mark Alfa Romeo's revival in the compact SUV segment. In April 2025, the brand celebrated its 100,000\u1d49 production milestone<\/a>. But since then, figures have plummeted: according to Italian trade unions, production fell by 41 % in the first nine months of 2025, with just 7,930 units assembled. A worrying situation at a time when more than one in two Alfa Romeo models sold today is a Junior<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pending the still-mysterious future model scheduled for late 2026, this restyled Tonale is intended to reoccupy the compact SUV space and support the Junior to reinvigorate sales. The objective is clear: to enable Alfa Romeo to finally break through the symbolic 100,000 units per year mark, a threshold last reached in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharp design without compromising style<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visually, the Tonale retains its balanced proportions, but gains in presence and muscle. The redesigned, more sculpted front bumper gives the SUV a more expressive look. The new scudetto, now concave and crossed by horizontal bars, evokes the mythical Alfa Romeo of the past while reinforcing the model's identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enlarged air intakes accentuate perceived width, while new three-hole (or three-leaf) \"telephone\" wheels recall those introduced on the Junior. At the rear, changes are minimal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New colors to seduce<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The color palette has been extended to eight shades, including three new ones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Ocra yellow,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    These new colors join the classic Alfa Black, Alfa White, Vesuvio Gray, Montreal Green and Misano Blue. The black roof, which can be combined with a sunroof, underlines the dynamism of this Italian car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A more colorful interior at last<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This was one of the weak points of the current Tonale: a cabin considered a little dark. Alfa Romeo has rectified this.
    The ambience goes up a notch with seats in red or black leather, or in two-tone black\/white Alcantara, matched by a dashboard entirely clad in Alcantara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The cannelloni seats, with coordinated stitching, reinforce the premium touch, while multicolored ambient lighting, inspired by the skin of the Biscione, enhances the interior. The new, more ergonomic central tunnel houses a rotary selector (inaugurated in early 2025), and the emblematic aluminum paddles are still mounted on the steering column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No tobacco or camel-colored leather yet, but this move upmarket is welcome. It remains to be seen whether this attention to detail extends to the front and rear door trim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    New engines and greater efficiency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Under the hood, the range evolves without revolution. The 1.5 hybrid increases from 160 to 175 hp, thanks to a new calculation combining the power of the combustion engine and the electric motor. The rechargeable hybrid (PHEV) version now boasts 270 hp instead of 280, but is more efficient, according to Alfa Romeo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Still in the catalog, the 130hp 1.6 diesel remains available for heavy-duty drivers. All engines now meet Euro 6E-bis standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Technology: premium at last<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The restyled Tonale now features two eagerly awaited technologies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • A high-resolution 360\u00b0 camera with \"drone\" view, for a complete view of the surrounding area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • A semi-automatic parking system, finally available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      There's also a 12.3-inch digital display behind the steering wheel, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon 470 W audio system. Level 2 driving aids (adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, emergency braking, blind spot detection...) confirm the high technological level of the Italian SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      And the prices?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Alfa Romeo has not yet announced official prices, but the press release indicates that the entry-level version will be more affordable, while remaining well-equipped. The range is structured around four trim levels: Tonale, Sprint, Ti and Veloce, complemented by a Sport Speciale edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      A clear mission: to relaunch Alfa Romeo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Since 2019, Alfa Romeo has been sailing between 50,000 and 70,000 sales a year, a far cry from the 130,000 units achieved in 2018. With the Junior - Tonale duo now more coherent and complementary, the brand could once again cross the symbolic 100,000 annual unit mark (or so we hope).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ambitious indeed, but the restyled Tonale now has the weapons it needs to win back the hearts of Alfisti and appeal to a wider customer base: more assertive design, upgraded interior, enhanced technology... in short, everything it takes for the Italian compact SUV to regain its rightful place in an ultra-competitive segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
