Presented in 2022 as the model destined to relaunch Alfa Romeo<\/a>the Tonale compact SUV got off to a promising start. Sales held up well in 2022 and 2023, but the momentum quickly faded: 2024 marked a sharp fall<\/a>and in 2025, the Italian brand lives mainly on its small SUV Junior<\/a>. To stay in the race, the Tonale is about to undergo a facelift. And this facelift promises to be a tough one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tougher design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the image leak late August 2025<\/a> on the Autopareri forum, rumours are rife. One user even used artificial intelligence to merge these visuals with the actual Tonale, producing a strikingly realistic projection. The result leaves little room for doubt: the Tonale's front end will adopt a more aggressive, assertive stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The famous Scudetto, already glimpsed in the first leaks, is said to return to a more classic design, with horizontal bars inspired by the Alfa Romeo of yesteryear, such as the 159. Added to this are enlarged air intakes and a bumper directly reminiscent of the styling language inaugurated by the Junior. In short, a blend of tradition and modernity, designed to appeal to historic Alfa enthusiasts and new customers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tonale's restyling will not be limited to a reworked body. New wheels are expected, as are new interior ambiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the hood, the powertrain is also set to evolve. The 160 hp mild-hybrid engine will be increased to 175 hp, thanks in part to a new method of calculating cumulative power. The PHEV version, meanwhile, could benefit from improved efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still a strategic model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This restyling comes at a pivotal moment for Alfa Romeo. The initial plan for an electric 100 % range in 2027 has fallen through, and the Tonale must now extend its career to bridge the gap before its replacement, due to be presented at the end of 2026, and which may even change its name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, the restyled Tonale will have the tough task of reviving sales and remaining a key part of the range, alongside the Junior. More aggressive in its design, more polished inside, and sharper on the technical front, it will have to convince once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
