The British ARIIC (Alfa Romeo & Italian Intermarque Championship) features an incredible variety of Alfa Romeo models.Alfa Romeo<\/a>But a number of models are highly prepared and have nothing in common with the original production models, like this Alfa Romeo Mito 2L driven by Jack Berry. The preparation work was carried out by Alfa Workshops, a recognized Biscione specialist in the UK, and was tested on the Mito in competition, before being offered as a 2L conversion for Alfa Romeo 4C owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the aero kit radicalizes the little Mito (it could have had this \"look\" in a rally version), it's inside that things happen. The 1750 tbi engine has been increased from 1,742 cm\u00b3 to 1,995 cm\u00b3. This increase is achieved not by reboring the cylinder liners, but by increasing the engine stroke. New machined Omega pistons and rings have been fitted, as well as an all-new crankshaft, thrust bearings and connecting rods. The cylinder head is fed by a gas circulation system to increase flow, as the original 4C engine was designed to create a vortex in the combustion chamber to reduce emissions rather than maximize flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other major change is the installation of a twin-scroll turbo made by Borg Warner. This is connected to a tubular exhaust manifold which, being located very close to the bulkhead, requires new protection to attenuate heat absorption. The boost pressure control valve is new, while silicone hoses link the turbo to the intercooler. The turbo oil return pipe has also been modified, offering enhanced thermal protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major area of development concerns the engine management system. This is managed by a Delta Motorsport SCS ECU discreetly screwed into the rear of the engine compartment. Described as \"Stage 2\", the SCS has devoted an enormous amount of time and effort to its development, notably by integrating it with the car's other electronic systems via the computer network (CAN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two very different engine maps are set according to the driving mode selected. The result is 410 hp and 600 Nm of torque, which is enormous for such a small car. Finally, the gearbox is borrowed from an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power is \"weak\" below 2,500 rpm, but as soon as the twin scroll turbo wakes up, it's madness with monumental acceleration, as seen on Jack Berry's videos. For the record, on a standard 4C, 110 to 160 km\/h takes 6.8 seconds. With this 2-liter engine, it takes just 3.8 seconds. The phenomenal torque available at mid-range is an instant boost, especially between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
