At the 1994 Turin Motor Show, visitors to the Carrozzeria Maggiora stand saw a little golden bombshell that instantly caught everyone's eye. At first glance, it was a Fiat Punto. But a closer look revealed that this \"Grama 2\", nicknamed Puntograle, actually hid a powertrain borrowed directly from the legendary Lancia Delta HF Integrale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, the Fiat<\/a> Punto had just replaced the Uno. Its sportiest version, the 133 hp 1.4 GT, already offered a nice temperament. But for Maggiora, renowned coachbuilder and builder of the latest Delta Integrale Evo2, this was not enough. So they came up with the crazy idea of merging the Delta's DNA with the Punto's compact silhouette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the Grama 2's reworked bodywork, we find the 2.0 turbo 8-valve engine from the Delta HF Integrale 4WD, developing 165 hp and 284 Nm of torque (some sources even mention 200 hp). Combined with the Delta's all-wheel drive system, this enabled it to reach 220 km\/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km\/h in just over 7 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maggiora has completely redesigned the bodywork to accommodate the Delta's larger chassis and running gear. Massive wheel arches, specific front and rear fascias, air intakes, two superimposed spoilers and 17-inch Speedline rally-style wheels: everything exudes competition. Even the rear window has a shape directly reminiscent of the Delta Integrale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gold color chosen for this unique model contrasts with the technical homage paid to Lancia, but accentuates the \"concept\" effect of the project. The chassis, too, has been strengthened to cope with the increased power and weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the differences with a classic Punto are more subtle: two-tone yellow and blue sports seats, three-spoke steering wheel, specific knob and differential controls taken from the Delta. No completely redesigned dashboard, just the essentials for an outstanding driving experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A project too good to be true<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Presented as a technological and sporting showcase, the Grama 2 fuelled numerous rumours: the return of Fiat\/Lancia to rallying, a small road series for enthusiasts... But in the absence of commercial interest and investors, the project remained a one-off prototype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, this Puntograle has changed hands several times, appearing for sale at \u20ac46,000 in 2021 and \u20ac97,000 in 2023. Today, its value is hard to estimate, but for Italian car enthusiasts, it remains a symbol: of a time when even a small city car could dream of becoming a world rally champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
