A duel between two radically opposed cars recently took place on the Brighton Drag track. On one side, the Lamborghini<\/a> Revuelto, the Italian brand's latest V12 plug-in hybrid supercar, with 1015 combined horsepower thanks to its 6.5 L naturally-aspirated engine and three electric motors. On the other, the Tesla Model S Plaid, a 1020 hp, three-motor electric sedan renowned for its lightning acceleration and consistency over the 400 m from a standing start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On paper, the two cars are similar in terms of power, all-wheel drive and on-board technology. But in practice, several parameters come into play: weight, aerodynamics, thermal management... and weather conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day promises to be hot, very hot. Over 28\u00b0C, especially for a supercar like the Revuelto. Its owner, the driver of the day, doesn't expect to beat his previous best time (9.4 s over the 400 m). On the other hand, the Tesla Plaid, with its linear, weather-proof performance, will be less affected by the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First heat: Tesla takes the lead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the very first run, the Tesla Model S Plaid showed its teeth. Despite a decent start from the Lamborghini, the Tesla stayed neck and neck, then overtook it slightly to cross the line first. The result: victory for the Plaid, confirming its formidable straight-line efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n

Second round: Revuelto responds with a good start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There was no question of the Lamborghini falling behind without reacting. In the second race, the driver got off to a better start thanks to a perfect reaction time. He took the lead right from the start and held on to the finish line. But with a \"normal\" reaction time, the Tesla would still be ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n

Third heat: tight duel to the end<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It all came down to the final run. The start was tense and both drivers reacted quickly, but the Tesla nibbled away inch by inch until it overtook the Lamborghini just before the line. Once again, the consistency and thermal management of the Model S Plaid made the difference. Final score: 2-1 for Tesla.<\/p>\n\n\n

A clear-cut result...<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a 0 to 100 km\/h time of 2.1 seconds, the Tesla Model S Plaid remains a lethal weapon in the 400-meter race, even against a supercar like the Revuelto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Revuelto driver himself admits that with milder weather, the match would have been much closer. He also points to an exceptional reaction time (0.007 s!) which enabled him to snatch victory in the second heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This duel illustrates that raw performance is no longer the preserve of exotic thermal supercars. Electric cars, with their instant acceleration and consistency, excel in the straight line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
