Lamborghini<\/a> changes course. While the Italian manufacturer had already postponed the arrival of its first 100 % electric car, the Lanzador, from 2028 to 2029, it has now confirmed that its best-seller, the Urus SUV, will not be going electric just yet. The future Urus, expected in 2029, will be a new version... but still a plug-in hybrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hybrid combustion for Sant'Agata's best-seller<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Urus, launched in 2018, quickly became the best-selling model in Lamborghini history. Restyled as a plug-in hybrid SE in 2024, it was scheduled to go all-electric for its next generation. But plans have changed. In an interview with Autocar, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We want the next generation to be a plug-in hybrid. It's very important for us and for our customers. In fact, they were very happy to hear about it.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The next-generation Urus will therefore retain a plug-in hybrid V8 engine, probably derived from that of the new Temerario supercar, with power that could approach 900 hp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electric? Not before 2035<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lamborghini is pushing back the deadline for an electric Urus 100 %. The EV version of the SUV would not see the light of day until 2035, the year in which the European Union will require all new cars to be zero-emission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This postponement is not an isolated one: the Lanzador, the brand's first electric model, has already been postponed for a year<\/a>and could be again. The reasons? Constantly changing regulations, slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles, and uncertainty about customer acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/use><\/svg>\n

\"We've already postponed the car, because the electrification adoption curve is below our forecasts,\" Winkelmann confided, adding that they're giving themselves several more months to decide what to do next.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Lamborghini wants to keep combustion engines as long as possible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This stance is in line with recent statements by Rouven Mohr, the brand's Technical Director, who says he wants to keep internal combustion engines as long as legally possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We still have a lot of ideas to express through combustion. For us, it's not over.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The next generation of the Urus, expected in 2029, will not be an electric revolution, but a powerful hybrid evolution of an already iconic model.
