The Ferrari F40 chassis n\u00b084036 is one of them. This extremely rare model, which is about to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby's Monterey 2025 sale, is an almost unreal piece: <strong>a 1990 European F40, never driven, preserved intact for 35 years... with only 360 km on the odometer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An F40 out of the shadows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/en\/ferrari\/\">Ferrari<\/a> the world's most desirable cars, designed to celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary and last supervised by Enzo Ferrari himself. Produced in just 1,315 examples, the F40 made history with its uncompromising design, Kevlar and carbon bodywork, twin-turbo 478 hp V8 engine... and sheer brutality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-F40-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-F40-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-F40-2-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-F40-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-F40-2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But this one is even more special. Delivered new in February 1990 to an Asian customer, it was purchased and... immediately put into storage, like a sacred object. This enthusiast never drove it, never carried out any maintenance, and never even allowed it to be displayed to the public. For more than three decades, this F40 remained in the shadows, totally invisible, hence its nickname of <strong>\"F40 ghost<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-neuve-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-neuve-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-neuve-2-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-neuve-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-neuve-2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A model of exceptional purity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This 84036 chassis is a coveted \"non-cat, non-adjust\" version, i.e. without catalytic converter or adjustable suspension, a combo prized for its lightness and mechanical authenticity. It still has its original 1989 tires, factory markings, blue stickers on the rims indicating that the nuts were tightened on the assembly line... A machine frozen in time, so much so that it has never been started since it came out of storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-2-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-2-1-420x280.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-2-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ferrari-f40-2-1-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A leak-down test was nevertheless carried out: 2 % on each cylinder, an excellent result. RM Sotheby's points out, however, that a full service is imperative before any start-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A fortune... to restore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Estimated at between 2.4 and 2.6 million dollars, this F40 could be worth even more if it had been regularly maintained. Its exceptional state of preservation makes it a special case, but its lack of use means that it will require a major restoration if it is to be driven, rather than exhibited as a work of art.
