A costly technical error that has permanently tarnished the image of this engine, which is widely used in Peugeot, Citro\u00ebn, Opel, Jeep and DS models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A reputation to rebuild<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Since 2023, Stellantis has tried to turn the page with the introduction of the third generation of the 1.2L, the PureTech EB2 Gen3, <\/strong>finally incorporating a much more reliable chain drive, correcting the shortcomings of previous generations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/en\/guides\/stellantis-1-2-puretech-engine-list-of-belt-driven-and-chain-driven-models\/\">This engine is now available on a wide range of vehicles<\/a>including hybrid models such as the Fiat 600, the Lancia Ypsilon, the<strong>Alfa Romeo Junior<\/strong>as well as Peugeot, Citro\u00ebn, Opel and Jeep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, despite these improvements, the PureTech's image remained too negative to be maintained. As a result <strong>Stellantis discreetly withdrew the \"PureTech\" name from the catalogs in September 2024,<\/strong> simply replacing it with words like \"Hybrid\" or \"1.2 Hybrid Turbo\", depending on the brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">T-Gen 3: a new identity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But this nameless transition could not last. After several months of silence, <strong>a new name discreetly appeared in the Fiat catalog in May 2025: T-Gen 3. <\/strong>From now on, the Italian brand's hybrid engines will be known as \"T-Gen 3 1.2 Hybrid Turbo\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"542\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fiat-tgen3-1200x542.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fiat-tgen3-scaled.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fiat-tgen3-420x190.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fiat-tgen3-768x347.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fiat-tgen3-18x8.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This name is not just a marketing ploy. <strong>It reflects a strategy of technical rehabilitation around the 3rd generation EB2 engine,<\/strong> while capitalizing on a more neutral, even valorizing name: \"T\" for \"Turbo\", \"Gen3\" to clearly signify the new generation. A clever way to regain control of the engine's story and dissociate it from previous generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the moment, this new name only appears in official Fiat communications. As for <strong>Lancia<\/strong>At Alfa Romeo, the term \"1.2 Hybrid Turbo\" is still used. It already powers a wide range of internal combustion and light hybrid models, including eDCT dual-clutch vehicles.
