While the exact origin of this information remains unclear, the broad outlines all converge on the same hypothesis: <strong>A new compact model will be launched in 2028 or 2029, after the Tonale renewal scheduled for 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new model would be produced in Italy and based on Stellantis' STLA Small platform. A choice that deserves a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STLA Small: more than a platform for small cars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The STLA Small platform has never been used before. No car from the Stellantis Group has yet been built on it. It is the successor to the eCMP platform used for the recently launched Junior. STLA Small was initially designed for electric-only vehicles in the A and B segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But according to our information, Stellantis is betting on this architecture to the point of extending its field of application.<\/strong> The aim is to offer C-segment models as well. A way to avoid having to further develop the STLA Medium platform. Two major challenges accompany this ambition:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/en\/stellantis\/stellantis-aims-to-increase-the-autonomy-of-its-new-stla-small-platform\/\"> increase range to 700 km in electric mode<\/a> and adapt the base to hybrid internal combustion engines, a demand that is still strong in Europe (and elsewhere).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A project already talked about... and located<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As for this famous Alfa Romeo to be based on the STLA Small, we think it's about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italpassion.fr\/en\/alfa-romeo\/alfa-romeo-new-model-to-be-produced-at-italian-plant-in-pomigliano\/\">the same model as the one we mentioned back in February 2025<\/a>. At the time, we were already reporting on plans for a compact car produced at Pomigliano d'Arco, with a launch date set for 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project would have a direct link with a new Opel, manufactured in the same plant a year earlier, also based on the STLA Small platform. A sort of \"technical cousin\", as Stellantis is already doing for several other brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An essential model in the Alfa Romeo range<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While rumors point to a model positioned between the Junior (B-SUV) and the Tonale (C-SUV), <strong>it's more accurate to speak of a C-segment vehicle. <\/strong>A crossover perhaps, but above all a compact car to fill a glaring gap in the Alfa Romeo range since the MiTo and Giulietta were discontinued. This type of vehicle is essential to generate volume in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you look at the sales figures for the Audi A3, Opel Astra or Volkswagen Golf, it's hard not to think that Alfa Romeo has everything to gain by returning to this segment. <strong>The brand needs to strengthen its presence with an affordable, locally produced model.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More may be known very soon. An update on the \"Italy\" plan by the Director of Stellantis Europe is expected shortly.
