Fiat<\/a> has just shared photos of pre-production models of its new Fiat 500 hybrid, <\/strong>putting an end to some speculation and confirming several important elements about this eagerly-awaited vehicle. This hybrid car model will breathe new life into the Mirafiori plant, and the presentation of the pre-production models clarified several key aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production from November 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As planned, Fiat has announced that series production of the Fiat 500 hybrid will begin in November 2025. <\/strong>This delay had previously been mentioned by Stellantis' ex-CEO, Carlos Tavares, in October 2024<\/a>. So production at Fiat's factories is moving ahead apace to meet this timetable, with ambitious targets in sight. (And remember that we talked about it as early as march 2024<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

71 hp Fiat 1.0L GSE hybrid engine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

About the engine, Fiat has confirmed that the 500 Hybrid will be powered by the 71 hp 1.0L GSE engine, <\/strong>an engine already used on the previous hybrid version of the Fiat 500 produced in Poland, as well as on the Fiat Panda, currently manufactured in Italy. Contrary to what some critics had announced, there will be no 1.2L Puretech engine. The decision to keep an already-proven Fiat engine is intended to bolster production and support the Termoli plant in 2026, which will need it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although this engine has been the subject of some performance concerns, don't expect a very fast car. In fact, the Fiat 500 hybrid will be designed primarily for urban travel,<\/strong> with a gearbox perfectly suited to city driving. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to match an impressive performance observed by an Internet user who reached incredible speed with his Fiat 500 on the German Autobahn<\/a> !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6-speed manual gearbox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Fiat 500 Hybrid will also retain the 6-speed manual gearbox, <\/strong>a feature that has been part of this model's identity since its earliest versions. The photos also show a gearshift slightly higher than that of the previous version, which could improve driving comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production targets and sales ambitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The production target remains the same as initially announced, i.e. 100,000 units per year. <\/strong>By way of comparison, the previous Fiat 500 hybrid produced in Poland reached 180,000 units a year. However, Stellantis Europe's managing director had mentioned higher ambitions, mentioning a target of 130,000 units per year for this new version<\/a>. These figures demonstrate the strategic importance of this model for Fiat as it moves up the range of hybrid and electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price of the Fiat 500 hybrid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fiat has not announced a price.<\/strong> But we'd like to remind you that the brand told us in an interview that it intended to offer the Fiat 500 hybrid at a starting price of less than \u20ac20,000<\/a>. This will make it competitive with other hybrid and electric models on the market, while offering attractive value for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Abarth version on the programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Finally, for fans of sporty versions, It's important to note that no Abarth version is planned for this new Fiat 500 hybrid,<\/strong> at least for the time being. Rumors of an Abarth version have thus been denied, and the production version will focus on performance suitable for everyday city driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
