The Stellantis<\/a> to send Maserati<\/a> in Modena, Serbia, is causing a stir. <\/strong>At a time when Maserati production in Modena is slowing down, this proposal has provoked a mixture of bewilderment and indignation among workers and unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since November 2024, Maserati's Modena plant has been on short-time working due to low production, with only 220 Maserati MC20s built by 2024. <\/strong>In an attempt to remedy this situation, Stellantis proposed a seemingly simple solution: send the workers to Kragujevac, Serbia<\/a>to work on the production of the Fiat Grande Panda. But this proposal has not failed to provoke a reaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A WhatsApp call<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Luigi Cozzolino, a 57-year-old worker at Maserati for 35 years and union representative, revealed that he had received the proposal via a WhatsApp message. According to him, he has no intention of accepting the offer: \"At my age, I'm not going to leave my family and my house to go to Serbia for an extra 1,000 euros,\" he declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposal, which consists of a six-month voluntary transfer with the option of returning home every 45 days, includes accommodation, food and a daily allowance of 25 euros. The workers' basic salary would remain at 1,700 euros, plus around 1,000 euros. The allowance would be well below what they could expect working in Modena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall rejection of offer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The idea of working abroad in an unstable geopolitical context and with unclear conditions was quickly rejected by several employees. Luigi, who lost 7,000 euros in 2024 due to the short-time working situation, stressed that the offer was an \"insult\" to his dignity. What's more, no trade union was involved in the prior discussion of this option, adding to the workers' frustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fiom union described the offer as a \"humiliating takeover\". According to union leaders, Stellantis' proposals only add injustice to an already tense situation. Far from being a viable solution for Maserati, this proposal is strongly opposed, not least because of its precarious nature and the lack of consultation with the unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luigi concludes that the transfer of GranCabrio and GranTurismo production from Mirafiori to Modena could be good news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
