The Fiat Grande Panda<\/a>unveiled in 2024, quickly aroused a wave of interest in a 4\u00d74 version, particularly among former owners of the legendary Panda 4\u00d74 from the 80s and also journalists from the motoring press. We even read that the model would be confirmed. But one question remains: does this 4\u00d74 version have a real future or is it just nostalgia?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feasibility study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the Grande Panda test week held at the end of January 2025, Olivier Fran\u00e7ois, Director of Fiat<\/a>, confirmed that the brand was indeed studying the possibility of developing a 4\u00d74 version of the model.<\/strong> However, contrary to what some media outlets have been reporting, for the time being it's only an embryonic project. The Fiat Grande Panda 4\u00d74 will only see the light of day if a number of conditions are met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand for a Fiat Grande Panda 4\u00d74 comes above all from the press and enthusiasts of the first Panda 4\u00d74, which is still remembered for its adventurous and practical nature. Journalists and former customers are hoping to see a model that perpetuates the spirit of the 80s,<\/strong> a time when the Panda 4\u00d74 was a veritable symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this desire may have more to do with nostalgia than with a real market need. Sales figures for the new Fiat Grande Panda<\/strong> and overall consumer interest in a 4\u00d74 model play a key role in the decision-making process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launch conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Italpassion asked Guillaume Clerc, worldwide product manager for Fiat and Abarth, for more information about this Grande Panda 4\u00d74.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first determining factor is sales of the Fiat Grande Panda.<\/strong> If the current version of the Panda is a great success in Italy, the Fiat Grande Panda has just as many, if not more, ambitions throughout the European market, Latin America and the Middle East. Indeed, if sales don't exceed a critical threshold of units (i.e. at least outperforming the current Panda), the 4\u00d74 version has no chance of seeing the light of day. But if sales of the Grande Panda exceed 150,000 units, for example, then the 4\u00d74 version could become a viable option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second factor concerns the shape of the model.<\/strong> According to Guillaume Clerc, Fiat's product manager, there are several avenues to explore for the 4\u00d74 version. It could adopt an \"off-road\" look without being equipped with a true 4\u00d74 mechanical system. It could be a simple front-wheel-drive model, but with a design and features reminiscent of off-road vehicles. It could also be a front-wheel drive, equipped with a specific differential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third aspect to consider is the motorization.<\/strong> If Fiat opts for 4-wheel drive, it could decide to produce the Panda 4\u00d74 in a thermal hybrid version with a system similar to that of the Jeep Avenger or the Alfa Romeo Junior Q4. But the question also arises as to whether an all-electric 4-wheel drive version could see the light of day. Everything will depend on the sales mix, consumer preferences and the technical feasibility of each option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So, should we expect a Fiat Grande Panda 4\u00d74 in the near future? Not so soon. <\/strong>If Fiat is considering this project, much will depend on the commercial success of the Grande Panda in the years to come. The first evaluations of the model in 2025, and the sales that follow, will determine whether this project becomes a reality.
