As the automotive industry moves towards 100 % electric vehicles and, failing that, hybrids, the question of the return of diesel engines to the ranges of Stellantis<\/a> is the talk of the town. According to some rumors, the group could be planning a surprising turnaround: relaunching diesel engines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information was first relayed by several French media, quoting Jean-Philippe Imparato, head of Stellantis in Europe.<\/strong> The latter is said to have hinted at the potential reintroduction of the diesel engine in the Group's models, notably on commercial vehicles, but also on some SUV and sedan models. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new version of the 2.0 HDi engine would be equipped with modern technologies to comply with current environmental standards, while meeting a persistent demand, particularly in European markets where charging infrastructures for electric vehicles are still inadequate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial rumours suggested that the return of diesel engines could concern high-end vehicles such as SUVs or mid-range sedans,<\/strong> and this engine could incorporate light hybrid or plug-in technologies to meet the requirements of new European standards. An idea in line with the current trend, where even improved combustion engines continue to be favored by long-distance drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But let's be cautious. To date, there has been no official statement from Stellantis confirming a strong comeback for diesel in new passenger car ranges.<\/strong> The Group is still concentrating on electric motors, petrol hybrids and plug-in petrol hybrids, and the last official information on the subject concerned adaptation of existing diesel engines to HVO renewable fuels<\/a>but only for models already on the road, such as the Alfa Romeo Tonale 1.6L Diesel or the Fiat Tipo 1.6L Diesel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
