This weekend, Lamborghini Squadra Corse made its debut in the IMSA championship with its SC63 hypercar, entered in the 2025 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona. What was supposed to be a historic moment for the Italian brand unfortunately turned into a nightmare.<\/strong>. The only car entered was forced to retire after just one hour of racing, victim of an engine overheating problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highly anticipated event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lamborghini<\/a> had pulled out all the stops for its first official participation in the IMSA hypercar category.<\/strong> With a quartet of exceptional drivers including Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, Mirko Bortolotti and Edoardo Mortara, the team had strong arguments to rival the likes of BMW, Porsche, Cadillac and Acura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romain Grosjean, a former Formula 1 driver successfully reconverted to GT and endurance racing, brought his expertise in high-pressure driving, while Daniil Kvyat, also ex-F1, contributed his experience gained in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Mirko Bortolotti and Edoardo Mortara completed this highly competitive team, ready to take on the challenge of the 24 Hours of Daytona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A premature halt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, Lamborghini's hopes were dashed in the very first hour of the race.<\/strong>. The SC63 suffered engine overheating, a problem which forced the team to abandon. For a team that had already faced major challenges in building this hypercar program, this failure marks a new blow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Mechanical issues brought an early end to our first 24-hour race as an Official Factory Team but the teamwork and passion to make it to Daytona was a victory on its own. This is motorsport. We win and lose together but we will work even harder to come back stronger for the next race in Sebring! \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 \"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

A hypercar program beset by difficulties<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This setback follows a series of complications for Lamborghini's hypercar program. In 2024, the Iron Lynx stable, which was initially responsible for managing the team, jumped ship to join Porsche, leaving Lamborghini to manage the project in-house under the name Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
