Alfa Romeo's future is written with the models of the next few years, with a new Stelvio scheduled for 2025, a renewed Giulia in 2026 and a revised Tonale in 2027. However, long-term projects, in particular for 2028<\/a>,<\/strong> remain uncertain. Rumors are rife about possible directions: sometimes a Giulietta<\/a>sometimes a large E-SUV that could be assembled in the U.S.<\/a>. But the latest rumor that could be the talk of the town is the return of the GTV model.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This hypothesis was mentioned by our colleagues atAutomobile Magazine<\/em>reports that the Opel Experimental project, which was originally intended to result in the production Opel Manta in 2025, would be recycled as the Alfa Romeo GTV in 2028<\/strong>. But what can we expect from this new version of the GTV? Is it simply a marketing operation, or a genuine rebirth of Alfa Romeo's legendary coup\u00e9?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The initial project, the Opel Manta, was to give birth to a coup\u00e9 SUV based on the STLA Medium platform, <\/strong>unveiled in prototype form at the Munich Motor Show in 2023. However, this project was stopped dead in its tracks by Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, who felt that this type of vehicle did not fit in with Opel's rationalization strategy, focused on more profitable models and the brand's core market. Opel projects such as the OV54, a crossover based on the Astra Sports Tourer, were also cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this project will not disappear completely. What was to be an Opel Manta could now be taken over by Alfa Romeo and transformed into a GTV.<\/strong>. This future GTV would be positioned below the Giulia in the brand's range, and would complement the Stelvio sports sedan and SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A modern, electric and larger GTV<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The return of the GTV would mark the start of a new era for the biscione brand, with a four-door coup\u00e9.<\/strong> This model, whose design would take on the elegance and streamlined silhouette of the very first GTV (Alfetta GTV type 116, produced from 1974 to 1987), would be a modern, all-electric version, with STLA Medium 400V architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we extrapolate, this model could be produced in Melfi, Italy, alongside the future Lancia Gamma and DS Number 8, two other models from the Stellantis group that would share this platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dream or reality?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The question is whether this rumor will materialize. According to our information, a GTV remains \"a possibility, but nothing is certain yet\". <\/strong>It seems that everything is still open for 2028, and that Stellantis' plans for Alfa Romeo are far from finalized.
