The Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV is one of the most eagerly awaited models of 2025, while the current generation, presented in 2016, will soon give way to an all-new version. The official presentation of the model is expected in the first half of 2025.<\/strong>and here's what we know about its features, engines and design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new platform<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

STLA Large platform<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The future Stelvio will be built on the STLA Large platform,<\/a> a base for high-end vehicles developed by Stellantis<\/strong>. This platform is already used for American models such as the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger Daytona, both 100 % electric models. However, the the Stelvio will be the first European model to benefit from this architecture.<\/strong> Unlike today's CMPs, STLA Large promises a wide variety of body styles<\/a> and greater independence from neighboring models, such as the current Alfa Romeo Junior, which is closely related to the Peugeot 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUV will be the first to benefit from the advances of the STLA Brain platform,<\/strong> Stellantis' new software and hardware system, which will integrate advanced functionalities such as multimedia, autonomous driving and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design: sportback on the agenda<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The design of the future Stelvio should be inspired by that of the Junior, but without copying it. It is expected to retain a distinctive look while drawing inspiration from current trends, including sportback\" styling, a trend in the SUV world<\/strong>. Inside, we should find a top-of-the-range presentation worthy ofAlfa Romeo<\/a>with quality materials and meticulous finishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engines: a wide choice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In terms of powertrains, the great novelty of the Stelvio will be the possibility of opting for a 100 % electric motor,<\/strong> although hybrid versions are also planned. Jean-Philippe Imparato, former CEO of Alfa Romeo, had promised a high-performance Quadrifoglio version, with a 0 to 100 km\/h time of less than two seconds<\/a>. For electric versions, look no further than the Dodge Charger Daytona, which offers power ratings from 496 hp to 630 hp<\/strong> with acceleration from 0 to 100 km\/h in 3.3 seconds. As for the Jeep Wagoneer S, it offers 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 100 km\/h time of 3.4 seconds. It is therefore reasonable to expect that the future electric Stelvio offers between 500 and 600 hp.<\/strong> The Stelvio's 800V electric motors are expected to come from the Stellantis Szentgotthard plant in Hungary, where production is due to start in 2026 (see our article dedicated to Stellantis Szentgotthard). As far as the battery is concerned, the American models use a 100.5 kWh battery with NMA technology <\/strong>Samsung SDI brand, produced at the Kokomo plant in the USA, with the StarPlus Energy joint venture owned by Stellantis and Samsung. It can be assumed that the European Stelvio will be equipped with a battery produced by ACC,<\/strong> the joint venture between Stellantis, TotalEnergies and Mercedes, specializing in NMC batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.6L PHEV engine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Contrary to expectations, the Stelvio should indeed offer PHEV.<\/strong> The hybrid engine for the Stelvio could be based on the 1.6L EP6 GEN3 engine, a plug-in hybrid version recently put into production at the Stellantis plant in Szentgotthard, Hungary . This engine, in its internal combustion version, offered up to 270 hp in the Peugeot RCZ. In current hybrid versions, such as the Peugeot 3008 and 408 PHEV, power ranges from 195 hp to 225 hp. <\/strong>It is therefore reasonable to expect hybrid versions of the Stelvio with similar or higher power ratings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made in Italy and top-of-the-range prices<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new Stelvio will be assembled at the Cassino plant in Italy.<\/strong> The price is expected to be higher than that of the current model. A combustion-hybrid version should start at around \u20ac60,000, while the electric version could reach \u20ac70,000.<\/strong> The price of the current Stelvio diesel starts at around \u20ac55,000, which gives an idea of the price differential to be expected for the new versions, especially the PHEV and electric 100 % models. By way of comparison, the Jeep Wagoneer S starts at 72,000 $ in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may sound electric, but in the high-end SUV segment, a 170 hp BMW X2 starts at \u20ac47,000, a BMW X3 diesel at \u20ac64,000 and a BMW X3 PHEV at \u20ac72,000. For its price, the future Stelvio <\/strong>will probably not be the highest-volume model, but it will be an \"image\" vehicle<\/strong>.
