By 2023, nearly 1.2 million units had been sold,<\/strong> an impressive figure that underlines Tesla's appeal to consumers, particularly in North America and China. In the first half of 2024 alone, over 100,000 units were sold in Europe. A dazzling success for the American brand, but at Stellantis, which now includes 14 brands<\/strong> (15 including Leapmotor), the competition is still a long way off.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the merger of FCA<\/strong> and PSA<\/strong> has enabled Stellantis<\/a> to expand its portfolio of vehicles, one might ask: which of the brand's models can really compete with the Tesla Model Y? <\/strong>Let's take a look at what's available and what's on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla Model Y: a benchmark for technology and performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before looking for competitors, it is essential to remember what makes the Tesla Model Y<\/strong> a benchmark in its segment. With its 4.75 metres in length<\/strong>his maximum speed of 217 km\/h<\/strong>and its 0 to 100 km\/h performance in 6.9 seconds<\/strong>This is a fast, high-tech SUV. Its WLTP range of 455 km<\/strong> is also a major asset. All in a price range starting at around 45 000 \u20ac<\/strong>. In terms of technology, the Model Y is extremely advanced, offering features such as autonomous driving and an intuitive infotainment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stellantis' competitors: a tough challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Peugeot e-3008: an alternative already available, but not yet up to scratch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Peugeot e-3008<\/strong> is currently one of the closest answers at Stellantis. With a length 4.54 metres<\/strong>It is slightly shorter than the Tesla Model Y, but remains in the same price range, at around 45 000 \u20ac<\/strong>. Its WLTP range is 529 km<\/strong>slightly higher than that of the Model Y, but its maximum speed of 170 km\/h<\/strong> and its 0 to 100 km\/h in 8.8 seconds<\/strong> are well below Tesla's performance. While the Peugeot e-3008 is a good electric SUV, it lags behind Tesla in terms of dynamism and technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a press release issued by the brand in August 2024, the Peugeot e-3008 is said to have received around 12,000 orders in the space of two months.<\/strong> If this is indeed the case, it should soon appear in the rankings of top-selling electric models in Europe, where it does not currently appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A more affordable alternative could come from Fiat Giga Panda<\/strong>a future electric model from Fiat which could offer a range of up to 400 km<\/strong> for a price of around 30 000 \u00e0 35 000 \u20ac<\/strong>. However, the Fiat Giga Panda<\/strong> will be based on the STLA Smart<\/strong>designed for more compact models, which could limit its performance, range and level of technology. This little city car could appeal to a wider public, but it probably won't be able to compete with the Tesla Model Y<\/strong> on aspects such as power and on-board technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lancia Gamma: hope, but not before 2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The model that could really challenge the Tesla Model Y<\/strong> is the Lancia Gamma<\/a><\/strong>a 4.60-metre C-SUV<\/strong>which will be launched in 2026<\/strong>. It will be based on platform STLA Medium<\/strong><\/a>more suited to mid-size SUVs. Lancia plans a HF version<\/strong><\/a> Gamma for 2027, with enhanced performance and transmission 4-wheel drive<\/strong>. If this Lancia manages to offer performances close to those of the Tesla Model Y<\/strong>It could become a serious alternative, provided its price and technologies live up to expectations. A key element will be its design, inspired by the Pu+Ra<\/strong>which promises a refined interior and elegant exterior. But unfortunately, we'll have to wait 2026<\/strong> to discover this model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfa Romeo Stelvio: an overpriced alternative?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Excluding Fiat Giga Panda<\/strong> based on STLA Smart platform<\/a>which might not offer the performance and technologies needed to compete with the Tesla Model Y<\/strong>and theAlfa Romeo Stelvio<\/strong>which is likely to be more expensive, only the Lancia Gamma remains<\/strong> as a serious short-term competitor, provided it outperforms the Peugeot e3008<\/strong>. However, the latter will only be available in 2026<\/strong>A delay that could prove problematic in the face of Tesla's rapid development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla has no intention of standing still. In the meantime, an advanced version of the Tesla Model Y, known as the Juniper, is due to arrive in 2025.<\/strong>. If this new version offers significant improvements, Stellantis could find itself having to make up for an already substantial technological and commercial backlog.
