It's now official: Lamborghini<\/a> will not be present on the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) grid in 2025. <\/strong>After weeks of speculation and uncertainty, one year on the announcement of Lamborghini's arrival in WEC<\/a>the list of registrants for next season has been confirmed the absence of the Italian brand,<\/strong> followed by an official statement announcing the suspension of its sports program in WEC<\/a>. This decision marks a turning point in the history of the Squadra Corse, which made a promising debut in 2024 with the SC63 LMDh in the Hypercar category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A decision with multiple causes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The news may not come as a total surprise to observers, but it's still a very welcome development. a major blow for Lamborghini and its fans. <\/strong>After a difficult season in Hypercar and LMGT3, marked by mixed results - a top 10 finish at Le Mans, a Hyperpole at Fuji, and a podium finish at Spa-Francorchamps in GT3 - the Italian automaker faces major challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the one hand, the relationship with its technical partner Iron Lynx has seriously deteriorated (it has just announced its partnership with Mercedes). On the other hand, the WEC regulations imposing two cars per manufacturer in Hypercar from 2025 were a decisive factor. Lamborghini felt that these new requirements were no longer in line with its strategy.<\/strong>The SC63's development had already been precipitated by the need for rapid homologation after a major accident during initial testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unofficially, The decision may also reflect the financial difficulties of the Volkswagen Group, which owns Lamborghini.<\/strong> At a time when the Group has to cope with declining financial results, it must also finance Audi's entry into Formula 1, scheduled for 2026. Audi, another Group brand, is already considering selling part of its stake in the Sauber team, recently acquired for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These budget constraints could explain why Lamborghini did not wish to extend its WEC commitment. <\/strong>which requires ever-increasing investment. Nevertheless, Lamborghini has announced that it will concentrate its efforts on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where the SC63 hypercar will continue to race. A full endurance program, with a potential second car for the major events, is envisaged. At the same time, the brand is refocusing on the development of the Temerario GT3, scheduled for 2026.<\/strong>in the hope of making a stronger comeback on the motor racing scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this pause leaves uncertainty over Lamborghini's future in WEC.<\/strong> While Lamborghini promises to remain ambitious for the future, the Italian brand will have to prove, through its results in IMSA and the development of its GT program, that it can make a strong comeback.
