Conversely, the<strong>light hybrid (MHEV) has invaded the new model range <\/strong>of the Group's various brands, offering an intermediary solution until all-electricity is available. But this<strong>his situation could well change as early as 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stellantis' surprising lack of PHEVs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprisingly, despite its size and broad brand portfolio, Stellantis has so far invested little in plug-in hybrids. At a time when <strong>premium manufacturers <\/strong>such as BMW, Volvo, Audi, Mercedes, or <strong>prestigious brands<\/strong> such as Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghin<strong>i are focusing more and more on the PHEV<\/strong> to combine performance with low co2 emissions, Stellantis seems to have taken a back seat in this specific segment. Yet the advantages of the PHEV are numerous, offering sufficient electric range for daily commutes while retaining the flexibility of a combustion engine for long distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Punch Powertrain: Stellantis' secret weapon for the PHEV<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tide could be turning with recent developments at Punch Powertrain, a Stellantis joint venture specializing in transmissions. For several years now, <strong>Punch Powertrain is actively working on a new generation of plug-in hybrid drivetrains,<\/strong> the <strong>e-DCT plug-in<\/strong>tests are now nearing completion. The results were very positive, with performance in line with expectations, even at temperatures well below zero. These tests confirm that the e-DCT transmission is ready for series production, paving the way for its future integration in Stellantis PHEV models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2025: the year of Stellantis' PHEV revolution?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><svg aria-hidden=\"true\" focusable=\"false\" class=\"icon icon-quote\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\"><use xlink:href=\"#icon-quote\"><\/use><\/svg>\n<p>\"Punch Powertrain is delighted with these positive results and the introduction of e-DCT plug-in to the roads, as it prepares to become the largest Tier 1 supplier of e-DCT in the world by 2025.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Stellantis remains discreet about his intentions for the time being, the results of the <strong>The tests conducted by Punch Powertrain and their statement point to a possible surprise for 2025.<\/strong> Stellantis could launch a new range of plug-in hybrid vehicles, based on e-DCT technology. This new range would enable Stellantis to catch up in the PHEV segment, offering an attractive alternative to the 100 % electric models and premium competitors already well positioned in this market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question is no longer whether Stellantis will introduce PHEV models, but rather when. If current signs are anything to go by, 2025 could well mark the start of a new era for the group, with a PHEV offensive, which was inaugurated with <strong>the new Peugeot 3008 PHEV (based on the new STLA Medium platform), for which orders have been open since June 2024<\/strong>.
