On the eve of the eagerly awaited announcement of the new SUV Alfa Romeo Milano<\/a>alfists are holding their breath. This model promises not only to inaugurate a new design direction for Alfa Romeo<\/a> but also to make a complete break with previous creations, notably the Tonale SUV. The moment of take a look at what's in store for the Milano just a few hours before its unveiling.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfa Romeo has a major challenge ahead of it, a brand known for its distinctive Italian design. <\/strong>Iconic models such as the 159, Brera, Mito, Giulietta, 4C, Giulia and Stelvio stand out in the automotive landscape, reflecting a strong heritage and identity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Milano will be based on the CMP platform, shared with certain Peugeots and the recent Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600. Alfa Romeo claims it will be the most dynamic SUV in its class. It's not impossible that it shares some tuning with the future Abarth 600<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It probably won't be up to the level of the Giulia and Stelvio, which are still benchmarks today thanks to the Giorgio platform, but compared with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, which is on an old Fiat platform, it's possible to be optimistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the hood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Milano is expected to be equipped with a 1.2L PureTech engine and offer an electric 100% version. No Italian engine, then, nor the Firefly already present in the Tonale, let alone the GME found in the current Giulia and Stelvio. It remains to be seen, and to be tested, whether these engines will be sufficient to make a sporty SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question of the Milano's Italian identity arises. With a French CMP platform, a French PureTech engine and production in Tychy, Poland, only the design, conceived at the Turin styling center, truly bears the Italian DNA. This point underlines the crucial importance of design in the Milano's identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new start for Alfa Romeo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Milano represents a turning point for Alfa Romeo as the first fully Stellantised model, and as an entry-level model destined to replace the Mito and Giulietta. Despite the concerns, this presentation should be approached with an open mind, ready to be seduced by its design and driving dynamics. We can only hope that Alfa Romeo has some surprises in store for us, such as something other than the usual black interiors that have become commonplace on new models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
