Just a few days ago, we introduced you to this 2005 Maserati MC12 Stradalechassis no. 12095, sold in Monterey at the prestigious Jet Center auction organized by Broad Arrow Auctions. Estimates ranged from $4.8 to $5.5 million. The hammer came down at $5,202,500.

A price that's anything but anecdotal: this is quite simply the most expensive modern Maserati ever sold at auction. It thus surpasses a previous record held by a 1955 A6GCS/53 Spider bodied by Frua, which sold for $5.17 million in 2018.

A race-bred, road-legal supercar

The Maserati MC12 is more than just a supercar. It is the embodiment of a renaissance project: the one that has enabled Maserati to return to international racing after a 37-year absence. To achieve this, the brand based itself on the exceptional Ferrari Enzo, from which it takes the chassis and, above all, the 6.0-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine, slightly modified to develop 630 hp.

Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaching 330 km/h, the MC12 would also dominate the GT1 scene with an impressive track record: 40 victories in 96 races, 6 team titles and 2 constructors' titles.

Produced in just 50 examples for the road, the MC12 Stradale is even rarer than its cousin from Maranello (400 units for the Enzo). This model featured the famous Bianco Fuji pearl livery with blue accents, a nod to the racing Maseratis of the '60s, as well as an interior combining blue leather and innovative BrighTex fabric.

As a sign of its exceptional condition, it had clocked up 11,563 km and had just undergone a $70,000 mechanical reconditioning at GTO Engineering in July 2025, with replacement of the clutch, oil and water pumps, realignment of the steering, cryogenic cleaning of the engine, etc. In other words, it was ready to hit the road again or join a prestigious collection. Suffice to say, she was ready to hit the road again or join a prestigious collection.

A symbol in a difficult context for Maserati

While Maserati is currently going through a turbulent period, this record sale proves that certain iconic models continue to represent a safe haven for collectors. The MC12 ticks all the boxes: rarity, sporting pedigree, Ferrari mechanics, iconic design and racing achievements.

Passing the $5.2 million mark, it confirms that investing in a legendary Maserati can be a safe, even lucrative, investment. In the history of auctions, the MC12 has just established its reputation as a timeless masterpiece, halfway between Maranello and Modena.
