Thanks to this major evolution, the Maserati Grecale Folgore electric SUV is back in the race with the Porsche Macan.

Let's face it: the luxury electric SUV segment isn't the most buoyant at the moment. Between high prices, still-perfect range and uneven recharging infrastructures, even the strongest brands are struggling to convince. Porsche, for example, is biting its fingers: despite a sharp fall in profits (-99 %), the German firm has announced that the Macan remains its best-selling model. Between January and September 2025, 64,783 Macans were delivered worldwide (+18 %), including more than 55 % in the 100 % electric version. In other words, this market, however small, does exist.

And this is precisely where Maserati intends to reposition itself with its Grecale Folgore MY 2026, a major technical upgrade that gives it 80 km more range and up to 580 km WLTP. All the ingredients for a serious comeback against its German rival.

A key innovation: the AWD-Disconnect system

The big news on the Grecale Folgore 2026 is the arrival of the AWD-Disconnect system, a technology that automatically deactivates all-wheel drive when it's not needed. In practical terms, this means that the SUV transfers traction solely to the rear axle, considerably reducing fuel consumption and increasing range.

The transition between the two modes takes just 500 milliseconds, and, unlike other competing systems, Maserati physically disengages the front driveshafts, completely isolating the mechanics to maximize energy savings.

This technical feat is managed by a network of sensors and algorithms: they analyze thousands of items of data in real time, including speed, brake temperature, road gradient and selected driving mode. All this is done without any intervention from the driver.

Ever more customization

Maserati is taking advantage of this opportunity to expand its range of personalization options. The Fuoriserie program now offers 32 exterior colors, including 6 new ones, and new interiors in Ghiaccio, Nero/Rosso or Nero/Giallo leather. Three trim levels are offered, including one specific to the electric version. The interior retains the typical Maserati blend of understated luxury, assertive sportiness and well-integrated technology.

While the Porsche retains the advantage in terms of 800 V architecture and charging speed, the Maserati catches up in terms of range and offers more power, while remaining in a more competitive price bracket than the Macan Turbo. Thanks to this update, the Grecale Folgore is finally positioned as a serious alternative, offering performance, refinement and greater Italian flair than ever before.

With this evolution, Maserati proves that it does not want to abandon the electric field, but that it wants to make it desirable in the same way as the Trident: through luxury, technology and driving pleasure.
The Grecale Folgore 2026 doesn't revolutionize everything, but it intelligently corrects its weaknesses, adapts to the market and restores the Italian brand's credibility in a segment hitherto dominated by the Germans.

  1. That's all well and good, but it's not enough to sell more Maserati Grecales. We also need to lower the price and introduce a hybrid version ????

  2. It's nice to see a return to the same level, but it still lacks a front end worthy of Maserati's pedigree, more expressive (headlights) and aggressive, to really make people want to buy the beast, because right now it's a Ford Puma / Jaguar E Pace at 110k.

  3. And it still won't sell because of its price. Slow sales have nothing to do with the range (approx 500km in the original version?). Who is going to buy a Maserati, a brand which every motoring hack claims is going to be sold, or wound up, for well over €100k! Maserati need to look at their prices, and the position of the brand, they still haven't a clue where their issue is. Someone in Maserati wake up.

    • I think that even when it comes to luxury products, customers are pragmatic. Initially, the Grecale was more expensive than Porsche with less range. At least now it's more or less back in balance. For Maserati's revival, we'll have to wait for the announcements at the end of the first half of 2026....

  5. The switch to 800V architecture is a minimum at this price level. Recharging time between 10 and 80% should not exceed 20 minutes, at a time when production examples of Chinese luxury models (Geely, Xpeng) show real times twice as short. The simulation of a gearbox also seems to me essential to reproduce the Maserati experience, as Hyundai does very well on the Ioniq 5. In the next two or three years, weight reduction and increased energy density will be decisive factors in improving driving performance.

  6. This update doesn't change 2 things. It's still a very expensive Stellantis ... and by staying at 400v, it clearly shows that Maserati can't afford its ambitions. In short, even the vehicle is more seductive than the German panzer, and customers don't hesitate!
