Stellantis plans a 3rd top-of-the-range model at Cassino, and it won't be an Alfa Romeo

The industrial plan of Stellantis for Italy has continued to take shape, little by little, since the appointment of Antonio Filosa as CEO last June. He has already announced that a complete new industrial plan, including models and powertrains, will be presented by the end of the year. By the end of the first half of 2026 for all Group brands. It's a long way off, of course, but already the first hints of what the future holds for the Italian automotive industry.

Until now, we knew that the future Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, both based on the STLA Large platform, would be produced at the Cassino plant. Cassino currently manufactures Giulia, Stelvio and Maserati Grecale models based on the Giorgio platform. But according to several Italian media outlets and information cross-checked by Italpassion, a third top-of-the-range model will join the Cassino production lines in the next few years. And against all expectations, it won't be an Alfa Romeo.

Santo Ficili has said it many times: the future Giulia and Stelvio will represent the pinnacle of the Alfa Romeo range. And according to our information, this third STLA Large model is ... the future Maserati Levante. This model has been out of the range since October 2023.

This information has several major implications. Firstly, it confirms that the next generation of the Levante SUV will abandon the Giorgio Evo platformused for the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio, in favor of the new, more modern and flexible STLA Large architecture. Secondly, it shows that Maserati production will not be entirely refocused on Modena after all.

The Modena plant, which currently assembles the MC20, GranTurismo and GranCabrio, could in future be reserved for the most exclusive models, while Cassino would become a key site for higher-volume, top-of-the-range vehicles, such as the future Levante.

This orientation naturally raises the question of the Maserati Grecale. This SUV, a technical cousin of the Stelvio, is also based on the Giorgio platform and produced in Cassino. While its continuity in the range seems logical, it is highly likely that its next generation will also migrate to the STLA Large platform and remain produced in the same plant.

For the time being, the future Levante in Cassino remains unofficial. Should this decision be confirmed as part of the mid-2026 industrial plan, it seems difficult to imagine production before 2028.

In the meantime, the Cassino site, a strategic pillar in Stellantis' revival of the Italian top-of-the-range, is quietly preparing to welcome a new era, that of the STLA Large platform, common to future Alfa Romeo and Maserati models.
