Five years on the presentation of the Maserati MC20 in 2020and then its MC20 Cielo version in 2022It was expected that the brand with the Trident would unveil a significant evolution to close this chapter. Initially scheduled for the end of 2024 under the name MC25, It finally arrived in July 2025 under a new name: MCPura. A cabriolet version, the MCPura Cielo, is also available to extend the wind-in-your-hair pleasure.

A presentation in the spotlight

To celebrate this late arrival in style, the Maserati MCPura makes its world debut at the exclusive Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025. It proudly wears a brand-new color, Ai Acqua Rainbow, with an opaque finish for the coupé and a gloss finish for the cabriolet.

But beyond this shimmering dress, what really changes? Let's play the 7 differences game.

1. A subtly revised front bumper

At first glance, the front end is based on the GT2 Stradale, the radical version of the MC20. The MCPura's front bumper is slightly reworked: more open, more sculpted, but less extreme than the GT2. A nod to racing, but not totally aggressive.

2. GT2 spoiler (optional)

The rear bumper evolves in a restrained manner, and the rear can also be fitted with an optional spoiler inherited directly from the GT2 universe. For those who want to accentuate their sporty look and assert their track heritage, here's an addition that makes a difference, visually at least.

3. A new steering wheel

Inside, Maserati focuses on sportiness and prestige. The MCPura inaugurates a new steering wheel, with a GT2-inspired design. The top is flat, and Alcantara is omnipresent for optimum grip and a discreet touch of luxury. A small exclusive for the coupé: an optional steering wheel with Integrated LEDs to signal gear changes, just like on a real pistarde.

4. More Alcantara

The interior has evolved subtly but effectively: Alcantara generously covers all surfaces, from the steering wheel to the inside of the doors, underlining the model's premium DNA and sporting vocation.

5. A signature color

The "Ai Acqua Rainbow" launch shade adds to the novelty effect. Opaque or glossy, it gives the MCPura an exclusive halo at launch. A detail? Not really, for collectors.

6. A promise: the last "pure

More conceptual than aesthetic, this difference is in the name itself: MCPura. Maserati sees it as the last "pure" iteration of its combustion-powered supercar, without electrification. A symbol more than a technical argument.

7. ... and for the rest?

And that's where the problem lies. Under the body, nothing moves. Engine, torque, power, performance: the MC20 datasheet is repeated, line for line.

And the power-to-weight ratio remains unchanged, as if frozen in 2020.

Conclusion: a "pure" evolution, but too wise?

In short, the Maserati MCPura is a barely retouched copy-paste of the MC20. The design remains a major success, acclaimed at its launch, so it's hard to make it evolve without altering it. But the total absence of technical progress in five years is perplexing.

It's true that Trident fans will be pleased with a few details inherited from the GT2 Stradale. But will this be enough to revive interest in a model that is struggling to carve out a place for itself in an increasingly competitive, and above all electrified, market? Not for sure.

    In fact, it's a new limited edition finish for a 5-year-old model.
